Schedule Update

There will be U-11 Girls games on the 14th, 15th and 21st at NOON. Japan will take on Canada in all three matches.

If you thought watching South Korea or Vietnam was exciting, then these matches are right up your alley.
I think I would be legitimately interested in seeing South Korea play Vietnam. It would actually be a close game. The losing team would have all its players banned from the WCP Cup forever, and the winning team would just be denied entry to all other WCP Cup events. Seems fair.

Is it me or are all these blogs becoming super out dated? I am looking for up to date scores and all I get are opening day stuff and some food bracket. Come on now. Get on top of this. Don't have time for it, get someone else that has time to do it/update it. So annoying ...

Its unfair for Vietnam, Korea and Somalia to be treated like this in this blog. There wasn't any stipulation as to what skill levels a team has to be to enter the tournament. Our thoughts coming in were that we enjoy playing soccer and at the same time able and proud to represent our heritage. You put too much emphasis on winning and not about representing a country. Maybe, you don't get to represent your heritage just as most of the players on the wcp teams. Therefore, you don't know what it feels like. Do you think Team Canada do any better at any World Soccer events.. do you think they should ban Canada from competing? Give me a break.

First anon: I think you misunderstand what a blog is. It's not a place where you receive instant scores. It's supposed to simply discuss things relevant to the tournament.
And why in the world would anyone need to know instant scores in an amateur soccer tournament? Chill out and wait a day.

Anon 2: That's great that you're representing your heritage. I represent my heritage as well, and it's fun. I'm not saying you have to win, but at least be competitive. You shouldn't be entering a team if you're going to get stomped by 10 goals. It doesn't add anything. It's embarrassing for a tournament that touts itself as being the top soccer tournament in Saskatchewan. South Korea can't even get real kits! And people are PAYING money to watch you, they deserve to see a good quality game.

My suggestion to you is that you put a team in one of the Regina leagues, and play a couple seasons first before you go out there. South Korea had no idea how to sub, players were spitting all over the turf, and they couldn't even string 2 passes together. Learn the game first, then enter the tournament.

Here's an example: Say I moved to India, and meet some Canadians. There's an amateur cricket tournament going on. I'm not going to enter a cricket team in a tournament and embarrass myself AND country just because I want to represent my country. I'll learn the game first, learn the rules, and try to come out as a team that people would at least respect.

There are other ways to represent your country. Spread the word that you want to start a Vietnam team. Start practicing. Hang a flag at the facility.

Agree with the first comment. This blog used to be great for legit discussions about the tournament. Since the tourney started this year there's barely been a new post about it. Unfortunate...this place had a different take on things compared to the other WCP blog...now it's fairly irrelevant.

I also agree that it's great to see the attitudes of these new teams just proud to represent their countries. I play on Scotland and after we beat Somalia 6-2 they all had huge smiles on their faces shaking hands. For most of the teams in this tournament winning is certainly not the goal...playing for their flag is...wins are a bonus.

I may be wrong, but from what I understand Holness set this up as a multicultural event...not so much an all starring tournament.

Riley: About your "things relevant to the tournament.." comment. You have more posts about the "food bracket" than you do about the tournament since it started. Weak sauce bud. No wonder this place has been a ghost town...

WCP Cup is an amateur tournament that is supposed to show representation of your heritage and be fun. So be it that local Vietnamese players don't have as much skill as other teams. I don't say countries cause the team doesn't represent a country, it represents local heritage. Otherwise they wouldn't have heritage players they'd have citizenship players. They come out, represented their heritage and had fun.

I believe the blog writer is the type who would laugh at people like Eric Moussambani. This is disappointing because I feel WCP organizers and supporters should embrace the feel, emotion and image the Olympics carries. Instead the writer laughs and wants to make it his own personal World Cup cause he knows he'll never make it out of Saskatchewan.

Perhaps WCP should just invite teams that are "competitive" based on the blog writer. So then there would only be 5-6 teams and then WCP Cup could fold due to nobody caring. Maybe after that RSA could extend the regular indoor season by 3-4 games.

Blog writer has bad attitude and gives WCP Cup a bad name.

The food bracket involves all 24 mens' teams, and it's going real well. It's a fun little side thing, and it gets away from teams just bashing other teams. It gets down to the multicultural aspect a little more, giving you a little insight into the food of other cultures.

Don't cry about me not ranking players and giving instant scores. That's stupid, and unnecessary.

Instead of bashing me for not posting, try being helpful. You're completely free to give suggestions and ideas. Don't be a dick.

Don't get me wrong...the food bracket thing is great fun...but prior to this year I came to this blog for the insight about the games/players/previews and such...that's all non-existent here anymore and it's unfortunate. You typically had better info than Collins has on his blog at times.

Teams are making the effort to compete in a lot of cases...take a look at Italy, Greece and now Scotland...still works in progress, but they are at least putting effort into finding better players while still keeping pride in playing for their flag. Scotland has a long ways to go but after not winning a game for 3 years and being blown out of most games to be at a tie and win (no matter what the quality of their opponent was) is a pretty good achievement for them. Greece's surge last year was great for them as well. Italy beating ES is hopefully the start of good things for them as well. Hopefully the Vietnam's/S.K.'s/Somalian's/Hungarian's follow suit and at least take baby steps towards being more competitive while keeping their pride alive.

Now I'm going to address the whole "bad Vietnam and South Korea team" thing.

It's great that they're representing their heritage. No question. It takes guts to join the tournament if you know your team isn't that good.

My favorite teams in this tournament? They're teams like Northern Ireland, Colombia, Italy, Nigeria. Sometimes not the best teams, but they try hard and put forth a good effort. I absolutely love major heritage teams like the Greeks. It's amazing they way they come together for this tourney. Andrew Baulin was a good player on a good team, and he left to go play with Hungary. I respect that so much.

The WCP Cup is competitive right now. There wouldn't be 5-6 teams. There's 21 right now. Northern Ireland tied Jamaica last night, great game. Italy beat El Salvador. There's not that much difference when it comes to almost every team. Almost.

I love watching good soccer, and to see Vietnam and South Korea play was disappointing. That's it. Maybe I was little mad about it. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, and I'm trying to represent WCP as best I can.

All those new teams will take steps next year and improve, this is a learning year for them, I respect each and every team in this tournament and once u play in it once, u knw it's very competitive and am sure back in every teams mind is that they will come back stronger next year, and the only way to get stronger is picking up new good players or playing throught the year, so Vietnum , Somalia and south Korea keep you pride and come back next year with some added quality to your ame, but I will still come and watch your games this year

Your analogy on cricket in india and soccer in canada doesn't make sense. Cricket is is popular sports in India, like Hockey in Canada. If the wcp was a hockey tournament, then i wouldn't be entering a team from Vietnam. But this is soccer, we love soccer. Just because our team is not as good doesn't mean we don't love or know as much about it as any of you.

Oh my god, this last comment is so stupid. Riley, don't bother replying anymore.
