Day 11 Recap

YB Scotland vs. YB Italy. In a clash of the two best Youth teams, Italy was the victor. But there's little doubt Scotland will get a chance for revenge in the final.

Afghanistan vs. Norway- Norway 4-1. It could have been a trap game for Norway, but Norway came out and played solid all game. Afghanistan's frustration started to show, as they took multiple cards. Head over to Norway's blog for a full recap.

Portugal vs. Northern Ireland- Northern Ireland 3-2.
In a must-win for both teams, Northern Ireland continued their run as giant killers. If not for the two close losses to open the tournament, Northern Ireland would have overtaken Nigeria. They still have a chance, but they need to beat Poland and get some help. Portugal has looked lost in this tournament and are done.

Ukraine vs. Austria- Ukraine 4-0.
Ukraine looked much better against a physical Austria game. Their defence can shut down weaker teams like Austria, but against better teams, like Laos, their defence is much too slow. They'll fight to get out of the group when they take on France on Sunday.

Ireland vs. Chile- Ireland 5-1.
Ireland started slow, and only scored right before half to make it 1-0. But thanks to some absolutely stunning goals, they pulled off the win once again. Ireland will likely face Nigeria in the next round.

I watched the youth game and that was more exciting than most of the mens games. It made it even more intense when Italy's goalie had to score for them from a free kick in order for them to take first place. My hat is off to you buddy! I also thought that Chile couldve had a chance to tie ROI. And Portugal disapponts me once again and pretty much sucked this year.

Portugal looked lost? what if u comment how bad the referee was and decided the game instead of making comments like that? yes we were not strong like last year, but even the nor ireland coach came to me after the game and said :" I like to win, but not like that". 3 penalties he did not call and letting the game be cheap and let them get away with stuff that normally referees should take control of. Of course I KNOW YOU ARE NOT GOING TO POST THIS. But don't make sad comments like that just because you don't like what I write to you. Northern Ireland play rough and tumble, they almost did not create anything, and if it wasn't for the referee, they would not have won.

to anonymous: Chile had a chance to tie ROI ?were u drunk or something ? how many chances did Chile have compared to ROI ? who dominated the game for almost all of the game? who defended the whole game and who attacked the whole game?
Portugal disappointed you because referees did not give us a fair chance in the games we lost, the Nigeria game the ref did not call a hand ball for nig's 2nd goal and although they would have scored with their eyes closed, we played bad, but we came back but it was too late, in the nor irel game, that ref had a bad game, and did not have the guts to make some calls ( at least 3 penalties against Nor Ireland) that would have determined the game differently. Even the Nor Ireland coach and some players did not believe how bad that was to the point of saying:" I like to win but not like that". If you had watched the game without a bias point of view you would have see it as it was.
to the blog moderator: act as one instead of a censor who only thinks of your point of view and maybe next year have a standings table and update the game results earlier and in faster real time.

Botswana sucks, they got lucky against Canada, but their true colors showed against Colombia. Botswana will forever suck and because of their arrogance during this WCP Cup I will never cheer for them again. You can`t win one game and think you are the shit and become hardcore getto thugs with your evil Botswana stares. No one likes you anymore, leave the tournament.

Hey Clock-cleaner... you give up on the site? Now is your chance for the predictions now we are out of round robin. Your predictions in the group play was not bad. In every pool at least one of your predicitons went through. About the only one you missed by a large margin was Nigeria. All others were close. I would like to see what you predict in the next stage.

if you are refering to her refing Canada vs Botswana your a total retard, Canada should of won that game but they were full of themselves and they know it too, the Norway vs Afghan come on really? Afghan are just a bunch of hacks that just run around wanting to fight everyone.

A few words to describe the tournament. THE REFfING SUCKED! The linesman on the El Salvador game was shitty. Two goals that were in and that linesman should never ref/line a game ever again. And Christine should never ref a game in mens. Because either way it could benefit Collins. And I got a kick when people and myself were booing Collins when he got hurt in the Chile game.

you're a joke filipe. you lost, and you lost bad. Quit making excuses.

As a player from N.Ireland, I admit there were some calls in that game that should of gone Portugal's way--but do not blame the ref for your loss. If you guys would of hit the net on more of your shots, or not hit 3 posts-then you guys would of won. And 1 major call that the ref missed in your favor--When your goalie got the yellow card, you guys were not short handed at all. You guys had the same amount of players on the field before and after that yellow card. The ref "never" wins and loses the game--And I agree, I did not want to win like that either (with the ref making bad calls) but the calls went both way and it is part of the game......Either way, It was a great tournament and was glad to be a part of it again

This is in regards to the post about Team Botswana. First of all, we had a few of our key players missing for the game against Columbia, because the guys from Saskatoon knew we were out anyways. Also, if you watched the game, we made some huge changes to the defense and midfield, so please stop with all the trash talk. It was just a friendly game.

Our team is growing each year and that shows by our record in the previous tournaments to now. I'm curious what arrogance you are talking about. We played hard and we played fair. We have a very young team. It seems like people on this blog keep trash talking. It's a multicultural soccer tournament. We are not leaving because you say so. Who are you anyway?

I'm guessing the post about Team Botswana is some player from Team Canada. Do us all a favor and stop with your usless negative talk. No one cares about what you have to say. Try saying something positive. You guys on Team Canada arn't great. If you are trashing Team Botswana, you should trash yourselves for tying that game. So really, who sucks. Canada is full of cocky players who think they are all good, and that's why they will never win this tournament.

Filipe your team blows. You guys will never be good. Your just full of excuses that make people not want to cheer for you at all. I'm glad your out of the tournament.

Personally I like Team Botswana. They made the tournament fun, and they had two really good games, that were very entertaining. I wish you guys all the best next year. You have a lot of new fans. Good job you guys. Keep up the big upsets. As for the person that is leaving stupid posts, you should tell us all who you are. I wonder if Kevin looks at these posts. I think I'm going to let him know about this blog. It seems like a bunch of trash talk. That's it really.

i think canada is upset because they didnt finish first but all in all they still have a chance anywas togo to the final, i dont think they are good enough to win it tho, the refs were as bad as it gets in this tournament nor only to portugal as it seems they are the only tgeam conplaining but to each and evry team, we need to get ppl not from sak to ref these games coz some are friends with players and some want certain players to get hurt, its taking away the purpoise ofthis tournamnet so i wish all players can go and complain to the organizers coz they are going to lose ppl in the coming yrs, all in akk a great tournament, glad all teams steped up and wish those who moved on luck, lets go support guys dont give up coz yo team is out, go support someone else coz thats what soccer is all about, speak positive things too guys negativity wont do any of us good.

Canada won't make the finals anyways, then we all can laugh in their faces.

To the ones who insult: I might be full of excuses, but at least I sign my name at the end. Unlike many of the commentators who come here and insult each other and write as if they are spectators and not players. Leave it in the game and have a beer together after the game. I know I do with many people that I battle on the field but respect what we do on the pitch. "As far as my team blowing: we came 4th last year. how did u do? plus we always play everybody on the team. considering we had 7 players missing this year and still didn't do that bad. we complain because we see it and do not agree with it; "about people not cheering for us: we even had some of our opponents on the stands cheering for us and had people protest what the referees call because they know what is happening. all we ask is a fair game to both teams like all teams should have. If you are better than us, that's the way it is. I'm not making excuses, it's a fact and if u refuse to get that, than I cannot make u see it or wish to, live in your bubble. I'll live in mine." As far as insulting our team, myself or others, that just shows how weak you are. I don't know who you are, because you don't sign your name(s) which leads me to think that you are hiding and therefore mean nothing to me or my team. "About the comment regarding the yellow card: I came out to have another goalie came in, and if you CAN remember the ref even forgot the time and did not call the player in until 2 mins later after I was out. Last but not least: cheering against a player who gets hurt is sad and talking trash about botswana shows how little you know about those guys.
