Team News and Previews...and a Pre-season Ranking by Someone Who Knows Diddly-Squat

Note: If your team plays an exhibition game or has tryouts at a certain time, e-mail wcpcupblog@hotmail.com with the results or schedule so it can be posted.

Team news and previews

England: England will look to be a major force this year by bringing in some new players. Yes, to the commenters, this includes Ronny Torres. They should have a very strong midfield, but a weaker defence, and if this team can figure out how to actually play as a team then they have a good chance of winning.

Germany: Not much news out of the Germans, but they should be back with pretty much the same team. They have a chip on their shoulder after losing in the group stage last year and will be looking for revenge.

Canada: Canada has a new coach this year and a couple roster changes. Losing Eugene Seckler as a coach will hurt them, but they'll probably still do alright. They may be lacking in speed and fitness, but they're always tough and solid and can keep games close.

Jamaica: Jamaica is losing a couple of their best players this year in Justin Manz, Shane O'Gilvie, and Tamon George. The younger players will need to step up in order for Jamaica to keep it's status as a medal contender.

Ukraine: Ukraine has made some acquisitions in the midfield and at keeper that will definitely improve their team. They don't have a particular weakness anywhere, making them fairly solid all-around. They are a quicker bunch that play well as a team and should be a major force.

Laos: Laos will have the same team as last year. They are a very skilled group and very quick, however they might lack an imposing force against the bigger teams such as Republic of Ireland and England. Nevertheless, they will once again be right up there with the best teams.

Norway: Norway will also have pretty much the exact same team, and will be looking to repeat as champions. They won as the underdog last year, and this year teams will be very eager and pumped up to knock off the defending champions. It will be tough for Norway to repeat now that everyone knows how good they can be.

Greece: Greece will be the same team they've been for the last 2-3 years. The Greeks may not have particular stand-out players, but they play very tough and everyone always seems to underestimate them.

Portugal: Much of Portugal's team is playing together this indoor season, so by the time the WCP Cup rolls around, they'll already be well-acquainted with each other.

Italy:Another team playing together this indoor season, Italy will be tough to beat. A younger and inexperienced team, but since they play all indoor together, you never know what can happen. We all know how well Greece and Canada have done in the past despite star players.

Republic of Ireland: Ireland is a major force and will continue to be a major force. They have many good players, but they might be constrained by the star player limit in the rules, forcing a couple cuts, but not enough to severely impact the team. They still have a great defence and playmakers in the midfield and up front.

Nigeria: Nigeria looks to be rising in status. They played solid last year in a tough pool, but weren't able to advance. They kept games very close and had enough chances to win games as well.

Scotland: Scotland played very well last year despite not advancing. They have playmakers on their team, but are lacking a solid defence. If they can shore up the defence, they will be a contender.

Colombia: Tough to say how good Colombia will be. They are sure to have some El Salvador players, but how their roster shapes up remains to be seen.

Chile: Chile may also benefit with the addition of El Salvador players, so their potential is also unknown.

Botswana: Botswana was a huge underdog last year, and will still be this year. They do have the advantage of having more players playing indoor soccer this year and getting into shape earlier, so they're bound to be better this year.

Northern Ireland: Missing some good players last year, Northern Ireland did not fare well. If they get their entire roster together they should also be better this year.

Serbia: Should be the same as last year, but the younger players will have to be workhorses for this team to have a chance and they'll need a better defence.

Poland: Poland was the victim of unfortunate circumstances last year when Ukraine and Canada were forced to run up the score as high as possible in order to advance.

Austria: They were beaten bad last year in a relatively easy group, so they really have nowhere to go but up.

*There are only 19 teams this year unless a team is able to pull together soon and submit the fee, despite being past the due date. From what I gather, one of Serbia, Poland, or Austria will not be submitting a team.

Pre-season rankings

Now for the rankings. Keep in mind, these aren't based on anything on at all, just opinion. I encourage the commenters to pick apart the rankings, but try and show reasons why you feel that way.

1. Republic of Ireland
2. Norway
3. England
4. Laos
5. Greece
6. Jamaica
7. Ukraine
8. Germany
9. Portugal
10. Scotland
11. Canada
12. Nigeria
13. Italy
14. Botswana
15. Colombia
16. Northern Ireland
17. Serbia
18. Chile
19. Austria
20. Poland

The rankings will be adjusted based on exhibition games between two teams or any other roster developments that occur.

Most of the top teams are so equal it's really hard to actually come up specific rankings.

For those that think Norway should be 1, I say no. Most of ROI plays together during the regular season and they only improve. Norway comes together right before the tournament to get things together. I don't think they could beat ROI again. A good comparison would be the New England Patriots and the New York Giants next year. New York got hot at the right time and won it all. Norway was much the same. No one will rank the Giants above the Patriots next year. I'm not saying Norway is bad, and no.2 might even be a little generous for them, but they won because they played very good towards the end.

who are the new signings for Ukraine?

Anonymous said...

Nice Rankings, looks like you have no ability what-so-ever to think but hey, I guess it doesn't matter seeing as how you must be an England fan. How did they do last year, and you ranked them 3rd. , maybe you can make some good rankings for the women's side, that might not be as hard there was only 5 teams. Keep going though cool guy, looks good......Would someone else please do the posting from now on.

Clock Cleaner said...

to first anon: Ukraine is getting a couple strikers, some yorkton players, and danny marchenko.

to second anon: Thanks jerk. Let's see your rankings. England is getting better players and they will be very good. If you don't think Korthius, Kash, Murphy, Ronny and some new saskatoon players will make them really good, well then it's a good thing you're not running this site.

Like I said in the post, I wanted people who criticized the rankings to actually provides reasons for their opinion. I was hoping this would stop idiots like you from commenting, but I guess I was wrong.

we killed them 4-0 or was it 5

Hey this is a little off topic and what not but when is the WCP Cup website going to be updated. They don't even have final standings from last year, or anything. All they have is info for this year, if they want it to grow and be this big event and people are searching for information on the website why do you not put more effort into updating that before you start blogging like crazy. I like the blogs but I would also like the website updated.

Anonymous said...

laos beat greece 3-0. heard greece only had like 4-5 guys from their actual team there, so you can't determine anything from that

Anonymous said...

I agree with clock cleaner with England being ranked very high. There midfield will be one the best in the tournament on paper.

Clock Cleaner said...

regarding the actual WCP website: I don't run that website, although I too am disappointed that they don't update it.

Anonymous said...

I think the ranking is ok except for a couple of things, the first one being England. They were suppose to be a great team last year too and they never did anything. Just cause you add on a player like Ronnie Torres you think they're that much better, come on. Wasn't this the team that was suppose to be bringing some pro soccer players last year and I don't even think they made it out of the group. The other problem I see is ranking a new team like Colombia above a team like Chile who a lot of people forget actually made it to the semis the very first tourney we had. To rank Colombia that high just cause you ASSUME that some of the ES players are going to go play for them isn't very smart cause from what I understand Chile has been rumored to be bringing a well balanced set of midfielders from the ES team as well as a defender from them.

Anonymous said...

Chile never made the Semis in the first world cup, it was portugal germany, el salvador, and jamaica

Anonymous said...

oh wait are you talking about the womens world cup? ya they won that joke tournament

Anonymous said...

whoever did the rankings should lick twat. soo off.no way england should be up there. who gives a shit on paper. they didnt even make it out last year. did you watch any games last year>?

Clock Cleaner said...

You emphasize "last year." Sorry bud, Its a new year and their team is better.

Who gives a shit what their team looks like on paper, you say? Well...else do we have to go on? If their team is different and better than last year, how can you even judge them from last year?

Once again, try and provide reasons for your opinion.

Consensus seems to be that England is ranked too high, but no one offers any other opinions on who to put there. So...who should be instead?

Keep the language in check here people.

Anonymous said...

I agree with much that clock cleaner says but I will rank my teams in groups rather than in order. Its just easier that way.

Legit Contenders (Teams which can actually win this tournament)

Norway - Last years champs. What they lack in skill they make up in hard work. That can go a long way.

ROI- Has played in the final last 2 years. Every position on their team is filled with a legit soccer player. Not many teams can say that.

England- Though they do not have solid players at every position some of the players they have are top class. A top team could meet them in their pool and things could get ugly.

Jamaica- Holness is desperate for a win in his own tournament (as you can see by the constantly changing rules). Sun is setting on his playing days though.

On the brink (Teams which could upset a top team but still would not win the entire thing)

Laos- Laos played almost 30mins with an extra man in last years semi final and still ROI carried that game. I would like to check out a whole bunch of their passports. Also some of their players are starting to look like they should play for team canada if you know what I mean.

Greece- What Greece lacks in skill they make up in trying to break your legs. They are a gigantic team and the small field suits their style of play. However not enough skill to break into the elite.

Ukraine- Some good players are rumoured to have joined their squad. But they have also failed to retain some of their better players from last year. They are my sleeper team.

Mediocre teams (Teams which could make the 2nd round but do not expect much more)

Germany- Seem to have very little sense of purpose while on the field . Maybe 1 or 2 players who a top team would want but thats bout it.

Canada- Get through many of their games on intimidation. Will not be able to intimidate the top teams nor rely on the pattersons to be them.

Nigeria- Nigeria could be another sleeper team. Have some solid players. Goaltending has been a problem but if Emmanuel can get going up front there is nothing stopping him from get 5 in a game. That is a big if.

Italy- These guys could have played together since the day they were born not going win anytime soon.

Scotland- Are a solid team but have lost their best player to my knowledge. That can't help.

Columbia- This is El Salvador stripped of all its good players.

Portugal- Lost 6-1 in a quarter final last year. 6 more goals and they are in a semi. I don't see where those will come from.

Crap teams (Teams that suck and have absolutely 0% chance of winning. They suck and therefore I will not comment.)

Botswana
Chile
Austria
Poland
Serbia
Northern Ireland

Anonymous said...

Well I am a little confused now, because everyone says that we suck and we will never make it out of our pool. Then we do and it is because of luck, or the other team played terrible. Now it is because we intimidate teams, well I think that you have officially ran out of excuses. Oh, and our team is not finalized, we don't even know who is playing, so how do you ?

Anonymous said...

I guess I was not clear. Those are predictions not the official final standings. My mistake.

Anonymous said...

who did scotland lose?
who did ukraine lose?

Anonymous said...

Sorry to change the topic a bit but what are the dates for the tournament? I can't find them on the website. It looks like April 20th or a little later.

Anonymous said...

April 19th - May 3rd

Anonymous said...

Any word on when the site will be updated? It has not been changed in over a year.

Anonymous said...

I don't understand the whole website issue, they are supposed to hosting this big event and it is like a welfare site, in a sense that nobody touches it at all. I like the look of it but come on at least put the standings up once the tournament is done.

Anonymous said...

i have an idea.
everyone here just send an email to kevin holness, who either runs the main site or knows the person who runs it, to update and say exactly what you're saying here. If a lot of people tell him to update it and get hype started then they'll probably do it.

Anonymous said...

What are some rumors about players changing teams? who are they and where might they go?

Anonymous said...

I hear John Carreses is switching from Northern Ireland to Poland!!!!!! Crazy!!!!!!! This wacked!!!!!!! I freaking out over here!!!!!! Bang! Booyaka!

Anonymous said...

Why is there no ES this year?

Anonymous said...

I'm asking myself the same question. I was part of the team the last two years. Not enough dedication. Nobody wants to put the time in that we need to in order to enter the tourney. No coach no manager and our players started signing with other teams while a group of us were tryin to get together to practice and make it happen. I guess some of our players think that it's more important to go play with a team that they think they can win it with(Ronnie)instead of working hard as a team and pulling through to represent your homeland.

Anonymous said...

well i hope england(team accelerators) chokes

Anonymous said...

Well I think it might have something to do with either the coaching or money. However, I believe the community supports them pretty well through the WCP but then again you never know unless you here straight from the source. But if I had to guess and come up with a good reason I would say it is because the coach sucks, he is an amazing coach for little kids but sucks for older kids.

9. Portugal
10 England
11 Italy
12 Scotland
13 Ukraine
14 Serbia
15 Chile
16 Austria
17 Botswana
18 Colombia
19 N.Ireland

Anonymous said...

AHAHAHHA i laugh at Laos being #1 ! last yr they couldnt even get a goal for a whole half when Ireland was a man short during the whole game! how can you rank them 1st? you are a terrible player to rank them that. Canada 3rd??

Anonymous said...

HAHAHA what an idiot! Every single ranking is so dumb. Please don't ever comment again. That was unforgivably stupid.

Anonymous said...

The last two posts, please tell us all what team you play for that way we will know why you are talking like you seem to know everything. As for the rankings, they are not too bad, I think Ireland has had their day and won't be able to finish first or second again. I think England will do a little better. Laos should finish top 5. bold to put Canada as 3rd but given the fact that they finished top 5 in the last two tournaments I would say it can happen. Other then that nice to see some teams move up and some move down.

Anonymous said...

Please...those rankings are retarded. I could make an essay on how so many of those teams are in the wrong places. They're just plain dumb. I shouldn't even waste my time commenting on it, but they're just that terrible.

clock cleaner you should just delete all these moronic comments.

Anonymous said...

Pussy!

Anonymous said...

Ha Ha Ha You are a puss man, tell him who you play for.

Anonymous said...

laos Number 1 it could happen but i think that there r good teams in the tourny... laos will be in the top 5 but # 1 is pushing a little bit

1. Norway
2. Rep. Of Ireland
3. england
4. lao
5. Jamaica

do u guys think canada will make it in the top 10?

Anonymous said...

hahaha Who cares what team you play on? I didn't play last year. It makes no difference at all. Any person with common sense can tell you those rankings aren't right.

In all cases, no matter who you play for, those rankings have no insight, with laos at 1, canada at 3, jamaica at 4, Ireland at 5, England at 10, Ukraine at 13, and more. Haven't you been hearing who is on those teams this year? They're just...indescribably bad.

As for this last guy who gave his top 5, those are much more realistic. I don't really agree with those either, but they can at least be justified, unlike the idiot up there. Clock cleaner's rankings are pretty good too.

And it's tough to say if Canada will make the top ten. They can always hang around, but if they're in a tough group then no.

Anonymous said...

Ok for all those people that are ranking or complaining about the rankings name some star players that will be playing for the teams that you think will be making some noise in the tourny.

Anonymous said...

I heard those 2 colombian kids that played last yr are bringin more of there friends over to play in it

Anonymous said...

If you are talking about the two that played on Italy, then NOPE they are back in Colombia.

Anonymous said...

ya there back but coming up to play in this tourny and bringin some reinforcements

Anonymous said...

haha reinforcements

the colombian drug cartel?

Anonymous said...

i heard that there not coming back

Anonymous said...

nope they aren't, they are back in school. A little too much money to fly here for week to play a few soccer games.

Anonymous said...

yeah makes sense. too bad, they were pretty good.

As you write in "anonymous" as well. Way to call them out!

hahha lao s haters already ... we will c about that

Anonymous said...

and greece will?

Anonymous said...

greece sucks but they will at least tie a game. lAos sucks too and canada and botswana and el salvador an england

Anonymous said...

the rankings seem fair but just a few recomendations. chile should be in the top 10 because they picked up the santamaria brothers and they got 3 youth kids comin to play from saskatoon. the same 3 ES had last year. they are gonna be good. also columbia is gonna be a small young team with a lot of skill. many youth kids on the team but they play in the premier league so they should not be bad.

Anonymous said...

The Canada forum is now up and running http://canada-soccer.ca/Forum/

Anonymous said...

chile is a garbage team, all they do is hack players

Clock Cleaner said...

A big question was where the El Salvador boys would play. If it is certain that the Santamarias and saskatoon kids are playing for Chile, then they will move up the rankings once I update them.

Anonymous said...

Most of the last standings are right or close to it except for one team....ukraine is looking real good this year...i wouldn't count them out......good luck to everyone.....should be one heck of a tournament and fun to

Anonymous said...

N. Ireland could have 1 or 2 NAIA conf.(US college) players joining the team. Both being heritage exempts them from star status. Might be that added boost they need.

Anonymous said...

ya hopefully theyll need it

Anonymous said...

ya hopefully theyll need it

Anonymous said...

I heard that the players coming in to play for N Ireland are really good. One of them is from Regina, but the other is a teammate in college. Both players are All-americans, so they should help N. Ireland alot.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know who this person is that is coming in to play for N. Ireland

Anonymous said...

wow all these rankings with all the teams that have never won a medal being ahead of teams that have been in the finals or have won medals. Wow. Until those teams are dethrowned ( because every year they are still there) no one can be ranked above them until they've actually gone out and beaten them. So here are my TOP 3 PROVEN rankings.

#1 Norway
#2 ROI
#3 Jamaica

that order can take any shape or form but these teams will be right around the same place as USUAL.
Done.

Anonymous said...

yes I agree you can't really disagree because Jamaica is always there and so is ROI. I heard a player on Jamaica last year had an injury that made him miss the entire tourney last year and season. Will he be playing this year?? I seen him play before the injury and he was pretty good so if he's playing this year that will definitely be a boost to that team for sure.

Anonymous said...

Yes his name is garfield walker. he tore his achilles 3 days before the tournament last year. So I think he might have some extra motivation since all he did was just watch last year

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know who N.Ireland is getting from the united states. I hear he is supposed to be really good.

Anonymous said...

No one freakin cares about northern ireland SO SHUT UP.

jamaica is losing one of their best players. and whos garfield walker? aint never heard of him.

Anonymous said...

This player coming from the states got conf. all-star his rookie season.

Anonymous said...

all you people dont know shit about his tournament yet so why dont you wait till the start of april nineteenth, and see whats happens, until then shut up with the predictions.

Anonymous said...

His name is Mike Sweeney And he's VERY GOOD, lot of experience

Anonymous said...

so i googled mike sweeney as a player who plays or has played uni soccer in the states, and...

guess what I found?

NOTHING.

You N. Ireland guys are LYING BAGS OF GARBAGE.

Anonymous said...

Check out the other posts for Mike Sweeney's stats from his university website please, it's quite funny.

Anonymous said...

i like how people put annonymous when theyre talking shit....lol. i give props to eddie pineda for putting his name. lol dont know the guy, but i think if u got somehting to say people should know whose saying it enough of this annonymous shit!!!

Anonymous said...

ya like whose all about stats, here. and hes a defensive player. by the way he was the first player to be scouted from uct. hes in his mid twenties

Anonymous said...

Columbia vs. Northern Ireland. March 26, 2008.....not sure of the time. theres a good shot for northern ireland to proove themselves. win or loose. if they get blasted, they got to improve badly.

Anonymous said...

you know if you really wanted that, you'd register a profile. Mike Sweeney did it. Why can't you?

HAHA KAKA????LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!1111!!!1!! OMG SOOO FUNNNNNNYYY!!!!11!

Anonymous said...

how is columbia a chance to prove themselves? Columbia is brutal.

quit advertising your gay N.Ireland.

Anonymous said...

I think that jamaica is being rated way to highly. they lost shane ogilvie and justin manz... 2 players that are key to the success of their team. yeah they still have some players that can make things happen.. amilcar and kevin ... but not enough overall strength to compete.. or finish top 5 in my perspective.
people thinking that ROI does not have a chance to win this year have to open their eyes... look at the core of the team, brett, mike, benno, tristan... those 4 players alone mean success... although mike isn't 100%, their free kick capability is still unreal, along with a very strong defence. a huge loss for them is leigh sembaluk.
England will contend this year no matter how they finished last year. majority of them played for accelerators and have the talent and experience that can compete against anyone in this tournament.
Ukraine has been hyped up pretty highly... although they do not have anyone exceptional like england or ROI, they will still have a strong team. having a strong goalie in this tournament is key and the goalie they picked up from yorkton will be able to do the job for them.
Laos i'd have to say is the most over rated team in the tournament. I don't know why they are so hyped up, they are only mediocre in every aspect of their team. an easy way to beat them is to get evan off his game in net and work from there. They are to small to physically compete and are most likely going to have injury problems.
Greece is also over rated.. they played well together last year and somehow managed to make it out of the group of death.
Germany can only improve on a dissapointing finish last year. with a coach like eugene seckler giving them guidance good things can happen. with a little bit of organization germany is a team with potential. Germany's physical presence will be huge for them along with a few players who can make things happen.
Chile will have improved by adding the santamaria's and the kids from saskatoon. but stepovers don't win championships.
Norway will again be a good team.. but i find it hard for them to come back and defend their crown, sure they played well last year, but they were the new york giants of the tournament... got hot when it mattered. i don't think they can do it again.

My top 5 will be
1. England
2. ROI
3. Ukraine
4. Norway
5. Germany

also, a big factor of where teams finish depends on the draw, and who is in who's group.
Having the teams that were in the group of death last year had a huge impact on where teams placed in the tournament. if teams like ROI, England and Norway end up the same group, that gives room for weaker teams to place higher.

let me know how you feel about that prediction

Anonymous said...

i feel like i'm the one that wrote that prediction in my sleep or something. that was pretty solid.

England is very individual. It will interesting to see if they can put their greediness aside and play as a team. The added player on the field congests things a bit, so it becomes how well your team can pass it around before shooting it, something that isn't England's forte. I would like to see what their roster nationality requirements look like.

Anonymous said...

who does columbia have?

Anonymous said...

columbia sucks who cares

Anonymous said...

just asking you hippo

Anonymous said...

Just to let you know, the way the draw works, ROI, Norway, Laos, and Jamaica will be in separate groups because the top four teams from last year head up each group. But that still doesn't stop ROI, Ukraine, England, Germany, and some of the other strong teams to get stuck together... it is bound to happen in one of the groups like it always does..

Anonymous said...

ooo forgot about that. can't wait for the draw.

Anonymous said...

hopefully the group of death isnt to stacked up, the most exciting part of the tournament is the knockout stage and seeing the best teams try to destroy each other.

Anonymous said...

i agree i just hope things kinda even out at the draw so we can get some good games, who ohnestly wants to see a team go on the field and get spanked, 10-0. i'm sorry but my heart goes out to that team if it happens to any of you this year. More then likely to happen in the group stage though. Let's keep this going. this tournys gonna be RETARDED this year!!

Anonymous said...

I heard the OT lounge will give out free drinks to any team that beats another team by 10-0

Anonymous said...

ahhh well then good luck too all who can win the most beer for there team haha

Anonymous said...

Haha good luck getting the OT Lounge to give out anything free.. they won't even give out water for free (and that's not an exaggeration)

Anonymous said...

laos over rated lol we will c when tourny time comes

Anonymous said...

ya the OT lounge is a ripp off man, i mean the ot burger is alright but its never fully cooked, hahaha pink meat!!!

Anonymous said...

the OT lounge is a great place with quality food

Anonymous said...

The food can be good when they have the staff there to cook it.. and the bartender on week nights is a good guy.. but Ipsco Place runs it into the ground with it's rules and all

Anonymous said...

all comments and predictions are good....ROI and England should be at the top this year....i don't know about Ukraine...they were pretty good last year and they have picked up some key players this year...but i don't think the goalie they picked up this year is as good as there other one......i have seen there regular goalie play for many years and he is pretty good in net...they shouldn't mess with a good thing...i will score on him anyway..lol but that is just my opinion.....i think England is going to be to over-rated..i hope they do well but with all that talent it might bite them in the arse.....good luck to all teams and lets have lots of fun....can't wait to see all the games...Go WCP Cup

Anonymous said...

uh do you even know who ukraine picked up for a goalie? think player of the year.

In response to the last 2 anonymous posts, don't you guys feel stupid sounding like little school kids about ROI playing an exhibition game against England? You have probably seen all the players before and it isn't that big a deal. They are two of the top teams expected in the tournament but save your excitement for the actual tournament. Go watch if you want but I will stay home and drink a few beer and watch soccer on Setanta or Fox. Watching Mike Collins et al run around is not my idea of a good night.

as with all the other exhibition games, it's not representative of the team that will show up at the tournament. All the stoon players would not show up for an exhibition game. If 1 shows up that'd be a miracle. People work around here. Don't go. It's not worth it at all.

sounds like someone is a little bitter. cheer up sunshine

i heard that serbia is picking up a university player from the states that is unreal. watch out for the serbs

Anonymous said...

Oh God, please don't start, we don't need another Mike Sweeney and Northern Ireland fiasco! I'm sure whoever posted this Serbia thing are trying to get everyone excited. Do not respond to it please! Oops, I jsut responded to it. Damn.

I heard Portugal was getting someone who played (plays?) professionally. Apparently he just dominates the midfield. He was actually from some country around Chile and wanted to play for Chile, but they turned him down for some reason. I was told his name was Anderson Luis de Souza. I bet he sucks whoever he is.

Anonymous said...

haha busted, i was hoping people would get all hyped up over it... give me points for trying

who won between n. ireland and columbia last night? anyone go watch?

Anonymous said...

N. Ireland and columbia play wednesday night at 7:00

Anonymous said...

ROI take the piss, only for bachelu and their goalie they'd be shit, no sembaluk this year.

England have way to many individuals, theres only one ball allowed in games according to the rules, do they have a goalie this year?

Norway got lucky.

Loas may do alright as long as Campbell keeps them in it.

Jamaica will be partying if they make it out of the group stage, lost the two brothers from saskatoon, Prime's? and no goalie?

Germany bunch of has beens couple alright players.

Scotland Ukraine Canada will do alright, 7 and lower.

Portugal, Austria, Poland, Botswana, Columbia, N Ireland and Nigeria might as well not show. And whats with the guy on Portugal with tights on?

Anonymous said...

So are you predicting that everyone is gonna suck this year? Let's just tell all those weaker teams to not show because who really wants to see teams who aren't the best anyways? Maybe people who are interested in watching the whole tourney and not just 6 teams.. How about supporting some of those teams and encouraging them to grow and maybe they will be able to make some good games with some of the stronger teams rather than writing them off instantly

Anonymous said...

I agree with the last post. I think that if a player from another team is posting that "this team sucks" and "that team suck" and saying teams shouldn't bother to show up, should have the courage to post there name and who they play for. So in the off chance that one of the so called "shit" team beats them, they can eat there words, but i am a sure if that was to happen the excuses would come flooding out.

jingo jango bingo bango said...

quite possibly they tried out for every team in the tournament and didn't make one... therefor each team sucks because they did not select him.

Anonymous said...

I love how everyone still thinks that Norway was lucky. Even after three great wins in the playoffs, it's luck. You don't get lucky in the World Cup, you dominate. Other teams were lucky that they kept it close

Anonymous said...

lucky other teams kept it close?

you don't get lucky, you dominate?

you should choose your words a little more carefully. If you don't think teams come close to Norway, you're going to be very very surprised come tournament time.

Anonymous said...

I think this is going to be a damn good tourny.....I myself will be cheering for the underdogs.....I love to watch a game where a team who is expected to win....has some trouble doing it...Makes the game and tourny a whole lot better....Good luck to all teams

Anonymous said...

So Norway dominated the 4-3 overtime final? Maybe you need to watch that game again.

Anonymous said...

hmmm maybe with some help from the ref ya norway sure did dominate that final

Anonymous said...

When a player completes a hat-trick by beating the best defender in the province for the game winning goal in overtime, that's domination

Anonymous said...

Are you saying that Matt Leung is the best defender in the Province? He was the defender marking Payette for the overtime header? You obviously are idiotic if you think Leung is the best defender. I assume you mean Looft because he is the only player on ROI that could be mentioneed as the best defender in the Province and he was nowhere near Payette when the goal was scored. I believe he was coming to get the player who crossed the ball to Payette because Wernikowski (who was the defender on the side the cross came from) was nowhere to be found. Since you obviously don't know anything, please shut up. Stick to making stupid comments of opinion and do not refer to facts. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

It has been awhile since i saw the game, but didn't the keeper kick it downfield and adam headed it in. I don't think anyone crossed it to him. I could be wrong, but that is the way i remember it.

Anonymous said...

I remember it as a cross from the right side if you are the attacking team. Payette was on the left side of the net and Leung was loosely marking him. ROI keeper came from his (meaning defensive) left post to the right post out towards Payette but couldn't get there in time and stopped. Payette sent a looping header over the keeper (Leung stood and watched him do it) into the left post side if defending team or right post side if attacking team.

Anonymous said...

I agree with two comments ago. It was definitnely a long ball from the keeper to Payette and he was being marked by Looft. Nice try on the cross thing but try and stick to the facts

Anonymous said...

It definitely was Leung marking Payette, but I don't know where the ball came from.

Anonymous said...

Does all that really matter? Everyone is basically arguing whether or not that one play was what constitutes the claim that Norway dominated, and can you honestly claim that an overtime goal, scored against either Benno or Leung, shows domination?? Of course it doesn't.. it was an OVERTIME victory.. meaning they were TIED at the end of regulation.. Norway deserved the victory that night, but the only domination I saw from them was against NOI and maybe Poland.. The rest were close, hard fought wins (and one loss) that showed skill but not domination

Anonymous said...

Sorry.. that Norway was *Dominant.. not dominated..

jingo jango bingo bango said...

Norway will be fighting ROI thursday at 10 pm to settle this.

Anonymous said...

I think a Norway and ROI final would be the best finish for this year's tournament too. Both teams are equally matched and probably have the deepest rosters to pull from. Both teams despise each other so it should make for some good fireworks again

Anonymous said...

Screw that, get some new teams in the final. I would prefer England vs Ukraine or Greece vs Germany or something like that.

Anonymous said...

If Norway and ROI got into a fight I would expect a lot of slapping, hair pulling, scratching and crying. Wouldn't be much to watch that's for sure. Most of them would probably want to mud wrestle instead.

jingo jango bingo bango said...

i think there may be a couple who could throw down on Norway or ROI.. i'd still say the toughest team in the tournament is Germany

Anonymous said...

I cant wait to see the Vasco players play in this tourny i think there all goin to be great

Anonymous said...

Are you kidding me, Norway and ROI have people that could fight? The only guy on either team that would be scary would be Manz. The rest would lose a fight against a u12 girls team.

Anonymous said...

theres this one kid whos super tough and he plays on colombia, hes crazy

Anonymous said...

yeah there's this guy whos coming to Greece who is super tough and has actually killed a guy!

Anonymous said...

Germany - Ben Wolfmueller

Anonymous said...

Yeah, there is some new kid for Northern Ireland and he actually killed 17 people and drank their blood after he killed them, his name . . . . . . . MIKE SWEENEY! That guy is crazy!! He also killed a gopher with his bare hands! And when a bunny rabbit looked at him funny, he slapped it upside the head! Don't mess with him he's one crazy mofo!

jingo jango bingo bango said...

shit, mike sweeney can do anything. he's the best

Speaking of mike sweeney, hes not a kid. Hes prob older than most of you.

N.I. 4 columbia 2

n.i.'s 3-1 in exhibition play. only loss coming to ukraine....4-1. not to mention N.I. never had there starting keeper in there. He looks preatty good, last night he made some preatty good saves, but he gives up rebounds like no tomorrow.

Italy, ukraine, nigeria, and Columbia. are the teams theyve played.

I'd like to see ROI Vs. N.I. Battle of ireland.

Anderson Luis de Souza plays for Barcelona "Deco", who ever thinks he's coming to regina to play for portugal in our world cup, likes to wack off to men to much. Fucken pull it together buddie. Hey did u know that northern irelands getting Ronaldinho AHAHAHAHAHAHA....common buddie. And england got Wayne rooney, and steven gerrard and frank lampard.hahahahaha NOT! by the way those are the best mids in the epl.

Anonymous said...

Calm down man.. he admitted it was a joke

jingo jango bingo bango said...

when did wayne rooney start playing midfield?

Anonymous said...

Around the same time Ronaldinho moved to Belfast and got citizenship

Anonymous said...

Norway decided to pick up Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just so that they could have the best name in the tournament to go along with the defending champs title

Anonymous said...

to the idiot who thought that deco thing was hilarious:

i actually thought gerrard and rooney were coming to play, until you said "NOT!" That was so clever...playing with our emotions like. Genius. Pure Genius.

OMG N.I. is getting Ronaldinho?!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WOW THAT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN FUNNIER! How do you come up with this stuff??

jingo jango bingo bango said...

clearly ronaldinho isn't going to play for N.I. he's going to play for laos... just like every other player whose country isn't in the tournament. But he won't count as a premier player because his mom is actually from laos.

Anonymous said...

Because I'm at work and I'm bored I checked out a weird stat:
ROI has an 11-1-1 record in the past two tournaments including one championship.
The only team that beat or tied them? Norway! That's some crazy shit. Norway tied them 1-1 in round-robin two years ago and beat them 4-3 last year. I think that kind of puts to rest the lucky theory for Norway's championship team

Anonymous said...

you probably look up porn too when your at work right and stalk people online? good job ace

What's wrong with looking at porn at work?

I realize no one has posted about this in awhile, but I am curious as to who the people are that are making these rankings of teams. If you have something profound to say, step up be a man (or a woman) and put your name on it or shut your mouth.

Also, as a future educator, it is very discouraging to see how terrible the grammar and spelling is on this blog. Lastly, sentences should not end with it, if, as, or is they are prepositions and everyone knows you don't end a sentence with a preposition!

My name is Dave and I play for Austria. Come get you some!

Anonymous said...

yah i ahgree. tha speling is soooooo badd like OMG!!!111!1!

WTF is up withe that?

Anonymous said...

I think we should stop talking about it. Just leave it as is. Some things matter not at all when left alone even if. That said, I think the grammar guy is an as..

Anonymous said...

I have a prediction, Norway will win it all again

Norway player

jingo jango bingo bango said...

from now on i am going to end every comment i make with the words IT IF or AS and not use any grammar what so ever just so i can push your buttons dave you make the most useless comments

germany is going to win it

Anonymous said...

But your comment was so meaningful that it completely showed up Dave's, right Jingo? 95% of the comments are useless, but we all read them because we are bored and they are entertaining, either because they say something we completely disagree with, something we agree with, or something so idiotic that you can't help but laugh at it.

Anonymous said...

Anyone that names themselves Jingo Jango Bingo Bango should be kicked in the nuts for calling themselves that. But I do agree with some things he says including him making fun of Dave. C'mon, criticizing grammar and spelling? That is the dumbest thing I have heard on this website. Perhaps Dave should go to his English Professors tea party and discuss things in his fake English accent with all of the other "intellectuals". Most of us don't waste time proofreading out comments because we have better things to do, like watching porn while at work.

Anonymous said...

Does it not seem to anyone else that there was a hint of sarcasm with what Dave said? I highly doubt he meant all that literally.

jingo jango bingo bango said...

hopefully dave responds soon with a very well thought out and proof read comment so i can criticize it

Anonymous said...

If Dave was using sarcasm than he did a piss poor job of it. To me he sounded serious. If he was making a joke, then good for him but next time he should try to be funnier when using sarcasm. If you're not funny, don't try to be sarcastic. Just some advice.

Anonymous said...

sarcasm is killing this world. look at bush he killed a whole country with it

Anonymous said...

Thanks Barack. Anyone know what time the Norway vs. Ukraine game is at tomorrow?

Anonymous said...

I wasn't using any sarcasm, the spelling and grammar is appalling. However it is taking away from the original comment I made about people ranking the teams.

I'm not claiming to be an expert; however if this were a college ranking system England would drop many positions as a result of losing, badly, to Austria and Austria climb the rankings. Also Columbia fell to Austria. I think that Austria is right up there now, maybe top 3!

Now that is a little bit of sarcasm

Anonymous said...

I'm glad I was right when I thought you were an anal-retentive dork and not being sarcastic Dave. As for your rankings, I kind of agree with you. We all know that most teams do not have their full rosters for the exhibition games but England is an interesting example. They can't win pre-season, they couldn't win last year, maybe they should be ranked near the bottom? In fact, according to my rankings (which I think everyone believes are the best because I am the smartest)England has dropped to #14. Therefore if England does well, they will be a surprise like Laos and Greece were last year.

Anonymous said...

illustrate anal-retentive for those of us unfamiliar with this technique...

Anonymous said...

Who the f#*k is the person who is infatuated with American politics?

Anonymous said...

Dave, the grammar around here is actually pretty good. Don't be a sad sack because someone forgets to put a comma in their sentence. At least we're using punctuation occasionally.

As for the rankings, yeah that does make sense, but how do you really judge anything from the exhibition games? I mean, I saw Greece get beat by Laos and they had maybe 4 guys from their starting lineup there. Does that mean they should fall in ranking?

I know England hasn't proved anything yet, but on paper they've improved substantially. When the Pats picked up Randy Moss and Stallworth last year, why shouldn't they move up in rankings?

Ponder that.

Anonymous said...

how come norways team thinks there so good but only 1-3 players(at the most) actually play good in the premier league and the rest are just garbage

Anonymous said...

Not that I am a Norway fan.. but they think they are good because they won the tourney last year

Anonymous said...

leave my buddies alone. sucker rules

Anonymous said...

premier player what are your rankings?

Anonymous said...

I will do my rankings bit by bit because I'm too lazy to do them all at once:

1. ROI - being in the finals 2 years in a row makes them a top contender. They are solid in every position and look to have picked up a couple of players from Saskatoon to stack their team even more. Not only will they win the tournament, Mike Collins will win the new award for most hated player.

2. Norway - from what I've heard, basically the same team that won it last year is coming back again. Though they have lots of talent, not in the same class as ROI though which is why I give ROI the nod. Norway won because they played great as a team, tough to do 2 years in a row.

3. Laos - I have changed my opinion on Laos and they have jumped up the rankings based on the players I have learned they picked up. Strong last year and with a few additions, could challenge for the title.

4. England - most talent in the tournament but questionable when it comes to teamwork. I know I rated them as #16 or something but of course I wasn't being serious. I just don't see this team coming together but if they do, by by ROI.

5. Ukraine - solid team from top to bottom and have one of the top 2goalies in the tournament. Marchenko up front, Dorosh on defence, Roman in the midfield (maybe) and a base of players who have played together for a bunch of years (Strikers)makes for a damn good team. No one wants to be in their pool.

You may wonder why I don't have Northern Ireland in the top 5. They were #1 until I learned what happened to Mike Sweeney. Apparently the cops in the states found out he was responsible for killing 17 people AND A GOPHER and have a nationwide warrant for his arrest. They thought they had him cornered in an abandoned warehouse but Mike Sweeney punched his way through a brick wall and climbed up the wall of an adjacent building much like spiderman and got away. A helicopter thought it was able to keep up with him but they forgot who they were dealing with. Mike Sweeney lept up to the helicopter (which was hovering 50 feet over his head) and stopped the blade with his hand. The helicopter fell to the ground and Mike Sweeney made his escape. Due to the fact the FBI and U of R Campus security will be waiting for him at the soccer facility, I don't expect Mike Sweeney to show up for the World Cup. But if he does, I predict Mike Sweeney will kill a goalie on an opposing team by kicking the ball so hard, it will explode through the goalies body.

jingo jango bingo bango said...

that was the most brilliant piece of writing i have had the honor of reading in my entire life.

Anonymous said...

For crying out loud....it should be "goalie's body" not "goalies body." pfff everyone knows you need an apostrophe between "goalie" and "s." Doesn't anyone else see this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

Otherwise whos body is it??? HAHAHAHAHAHA COME ON PEOPLE GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER.

Anonymous said...

Haha Mugatu!

On another note, Laos didn't pick up anyone different. They're the exact same team as last year.

Anonymous said...

Cant wait for the half time performance at the final game

Anonymous said...

Sweeney will be there.

Anonymous said...

that was great about mike sweeney....

so i heard hes goin to do evilcanival stunts, goin through fire rings, crazy flips, and then goin to do a crazy dance off with the best break dancer in regina, i cant wait, oh ya!! 21!!
