Preview A Pool: Group A

Group A

Norway
Austria
Chile
Poland
Italy

The only proven team in this group is Norway. Everyone knows how good Norway is, but no one really knows what to expect from the other four teams. Chile still has to prove they can play with a good team, but they are the favorite to finish second.

Prediction: Norway, Chile, Italy, Poland, Austria. Norway should have first place locked up if they play their best, but the real battle will be for second. Any one of those 4 teams could make it through the group. Chile should come out in second, but they'll be given a run for their money.

Game to watch: Norway vs. Chile

Norway and Italy come out.

Anonymous said...

Chile will come out. They have a strong team with the people from saskatoon coming here.

Anonymous said...

I guess that means they're guaranteed to come out then.

Anonymous said...

italy lost there best players
from last year they wont make it out
i agree i think chile might have a chance
but Austria beat england soo who knows its a toss up for second

Anonymous said...

norway has a easy pool but will it hurt them look wat happen to rep ireland

Anonymous said...

you are saying roi was hurt because they lost in the final? thats tough to back up....

Anonymous said...

Poland and Austria. Just kidding, Norway and Chile will advance in a easy pool.

Anonymous said...

Chile and Norway

Anonymous said...

Norway will not repeat as champs this year. Advance from there group, yes. but losses to Ukraine and Laos show other countries have continued to improve. Granted Norway was not at full strength but nor were Ukraine or Laos. Its also diffcult for Norway as defending champs everyone wants to knock you off. Only as far as the round of 10.

Anonymous said...

round of 8

Anonymous said...

norway will not win the cup

Not_Anonymous said...

There are 20 teams playing so to say that one team won't win gives you about a 95% (maybe about %75 considering some teams have next to no chance of winning) chance of being right.. why not be a little ballsy and say who you think is gonna win rather than who won't.

I'm gonna take Jamaica, because everyone seems to be writing them off but they have been practicing together all season and they are hungry for a victory after being so close every year and not winning. I don't care that they are missing some stars. This tournament is about teams not stars.

Al Ligator said...

Jamaica? They'll be lucky to win 2 games.

They have NOT been practicing together all season. They can't even get people to come out to practice because of prior commitments. There's a reason they haven't had exhibition games. And stars matter, despite what you think. They help immensely.

Not_Anonymous said...

There is a reason they don't play exhibition games.. because they prefer practicing on their own rather than showing every one else what they've got and rather than losing players to injury in meaningless exhibition games.. and I didn't say stars don't matter, I just said it's not just about the stars.. lots of teams stack their teams with players and do nothing.. Good players helps but if you can't do shit as a team then you aren't gonna go anywhere..

Al Ligator said...

The players on their team play soccer, but they don't actually have Jamaica practices. So when you say they've been "practicing together all season," you're wrong.
Jamaica is a team like England. They'll be coming together just before the tournament.

You don't care that they are missing some stars? Why do you think that somehow makes them better and makes them win the whole thing? My mind is boggled.

Not_Anonymous said...

Yes they have been having team Jamaica practices.. Sunday nights at the facility for quite a long time.. it has been written up on the board many nights and it boggles my mind that you tell me they don't practice..

and some teams pull together when key players leave because they know they have a void to fill.. It's a simple prediction which may or may not come true, but at least it sparks some discussion rather than saying that one team sucks and won't win..

Anonymous said...

Norway will at LEAST make the semi finals. They are the deepest team in the tournament.
Sure everyone will gun for them but honestly who can beat them? ROI and maybe, and this is a huge maybe, Ukraine and England.

For those people talking about exhibition games, they really dont make that much of a difference. Most teams are missing there best players. Jamaica doesnt want to have to pay money for field time when they know they will be able to play well as a team

Anonymous said...

norway is nothin, 3/4 of there players did nothing great or even stood out in the premier league and they havent even improved there squad this yr, they will make it to the semis, if they make it to the final they will squeeze one out and then lose in the final

Not_Anonymous said...

But that is premier not WCP. If you remember last year, the team that they had stood out enough to win the whole thing and they have pretty much the same team. And I find it funny that you say Norway is nothing but you still predict they make it to the semis and maybe even the final. Being top 4 out of 20 teams is a little better than nothing..

Anonymous said...

Italy lost 3-0 to Colombia on Monday... either Italy is very weak of Colombia is the surprise team to watch for!

Anonymous said...

nobody cares about italy or columbia.. they won't make it out of their group

Anonymous said...

Somebody must care, they took the time to post the results of the game. So you can really say "nobody cares".

Anonymous said...

can't, should be there instead of can. Just want to fix that before i get the sentence police after me

Al Ligator said...

I don't know about this group. Chile is going to have a hard time making it out. Austria and Poland should give them a run for their money. More so Austria.

Anonymous said...

I'm putting my money on colombia being the team that surprises everyone and gets out of there pool. upsets everyone (other teams in pool d)

Al Ligator said...

Yeah...talk about group D in the group D topic.

I don't think Chile is that good. Austria, Poland and Italy all have just as good a chance as Chile to come out. 2nd place is completely up in the air.

Anonymous said...

i agree with colombia being good, but i don't think they'll get out of their pool. I expect an upset by them though.

Anonymous said...

Once again. If you want to talk about how group D is going to go. You can do it in the group D section. This is for group A.

Chile looks like the strongest of the four, but not by much though. Poland doesn't look much different from what I've seen, Italy won't be as good as last year because they lost the Colombian guys who carried them last year, and Austria has improved from last year, but if they didn't improve from last year there would be something really wrong. I think Chile should get second, but it should be close and anything can happen.

Anonymous said...

So what makes you think that Chile is no good and that they wont make it out of the group Al Ligator?? Since like youre such an expert on knowing things? Cuz it seems almost the majority of ppl here are saying that its Chile and Norway that will go out of Group A.

Al Ligator said...

I never said they were no good.

I said they aren't THAT good. I don't think they'll just coast into 2nd, like some people seem to believe. It's my opinion that they'll have a tough time getting out of their group. They might get surprised by Austria, Italy or Poland. I'm just hoping for a minor upset here.

Anonymous said...

Chile does suck, no good keeper, no defense, decent midfield and strikers, the farthest they will go is the quarterfinals, i wont be surprised if they lose to Italy like last yr.

Deadmoney

Anonymous said...

They dont have there 4 best players that are coming in from Saskatoon A defender 2 midfielders and a striker. watch out

Anonymous said...

Chile looked awful yesterday.
Go back to your real sport, diving.

Anonymous said...

the latinos are gonna show all you white honky wanna be soccer players what futbol is about....Chile is gonna win thier pool...

Anonymous said...

Isn't white honky a little redundant?

On a serious note, Norway should coast through this pool, but second will be close. Austria showed that they are much better than last year, thought they are lacking any finishing. Chile should be decently strong given their opponents. Italy hasn't played yet, or I have not heard the final score of the game that likely just ended about 5 minutes ago, but I don't see them being too strong. Poland has some talent but I can't see them doing much this year again.

Anonymous said...

CHile coasts, easy win last night for them

Anonymous said...

Chile is gonna place first. thier soccer proved to be the best this weekend other than laos.

Anonymous said...

LOOK WHO THEY PLAYED! They are the best they have ever been yes and those UofS guys showed they have game but Norway, who yes played like shit against austria, have proven themselves in more than just two games that they can defend the best goal scorers and create goals of their own.

Chile makes it out of the pool but in second.

Anonymous said...

We will see I guess i think your wrong man.

Anonymous said...

i agree chille will make it out but second... in there pool .. jarvis will stop the u of s guys

Anonymous said...

yea norway's d is all like 6'3 and good. I cant see chile breaking through

Anonymous said...

comments must come form peope who dont know shit..why would chile penetrate a huge d....they will touch there way aroung those big goofs and score goals..one on one...that would be stupid..in the air...that would be stupid..but lets face it...the guys from saskatoon have more talent..chile's goal scorer is on the CIS all star team..leading the league in goals...

Anonymous said...

that...was...an...excessive use...of periods. Don't....comment...again...

Anonymous said...

Why is Chile even talking, you have played aganist Poland and Italy, both teams are weak the real test is aganist Norway, and then we will see if Chile is a pretender or not

Anonymous said...

yea if we're going to compare how good chile is with norway I dont think we should use their previous games. the other teams in their pool just arent good enough. Yes chile has good players, but norway has a better team.

Norways d are not big goofs, they proved last year that they can stick with the best forwards (bachelu)and I expect them to limit chile to no goals

Anonymous said...

come on now. you seriously think norways defenders will be able to contain the chileans. chile looks pretty good, not because they beat fairly easy temas, but because of the style they play, no other team can play on the ground . all they do is boot the ball up and hope for a rebound. chile by far has showed the best soccer!

Anonymous said...

so norway and chile now have 6 points each and the rest of the teams zero so far. Its going to be a good build up to the chile vs. norway game.

Anonymous said...

Chile sucks, name one good player on their team

Anonymous said...

how does Chile become a contender? they have played aganist a weak poland and italy teams both teams are very weak. they suck there lame passes are easy to read.

Anonymous said...

Who is this guy Roli that everyone is talking about? I hear Chile is bringing him to handle Norway. I hear he is an ex pro player, 6 feet, dirty, killer? Anybody know this guy? Chile should not be allowed to do this.

Anonymous said...

I think someone said that Chile is bringing in Emilio from Saskatoon and Javi from Edmonton. Not sure about this Roli guy.

Anonymous said...

If Norway plays like they did against Italy, Chile is going to shit stomp them, they better pick up their game and not leave it to Irving to keep them in it. their defense sucked ass last night, letting a 3 goal lead dwindle to 1. they need to be stronger if they want to prove last year wasnt a fluke.

Anonymous said...

good player for Chile was Max, but he sucks now!

Anonymous said...

It's funny how bullshit starts on these blogs about bringing in guys from edmonton. We have all the players we need to win. I'd like to know who told these people about these other players cause they are fucking with you. As for us not having played a real contender it's true Poland didn't do anything against us and we took care of Italy easy enough we'll walk all over Austria and take the pool away from Norway. The difference between Norway and us in the last couple of games is that Norway has looked weak. They only beat Italy by one goal which we beat by three. It doesnt matter how big a defender they have, don't you think the U of S guys are used to playin against big defenders and with way more talent then what Norway has to offer? Maybe once we win our pool there will be some respect for the team and the style of soccer we play but I wouldn't bet on it

its funny how Chile is complaning how this tournament should be a true heritage tourny when they cut players or dont contact players from there own heritage and then pickin up other south or central american players, is that fair to the TRUE CHILE players that want to play for them?

Anonymous said...

Chile has given the chance to the other "True Chilean" players before this tournament started and those players had decided to go their own ways! Its that simple and true and get your sources straight!!

Anonymous said...

u guys cut javier bravo, eddy mula, and nick fuentes, you guys are criminals, your fans dont respect other teams, you say your passionate, you boo other teams and call them names which is really disrespectful to other ppl watching games, clean up your act

Anonymous said...

haha i would like to see some people go to games in europe or south america... to watch some real soccer with real fans. wow people complaining about too much noise or apparent "name calling"... this isnt croquet or golf. this is soccer, you go to cheer on your team, respectfully or not

Anonymous said...

there were only 2 cuts made this year both of which were not heritage players, and it is Eddy Moya not Mula and Nico quit the team cause he wanted to play with his friends in England. Javier has played for jamaica since the first tournament took place and has never tried out for the team and Eddy Moya's brother plays in our team and he was invited to come play for us. You know what is really funny is when bullshit is being said now that the team is a true contender and it's by people who don't even know what happened in the team. If you're gonna talk shit you should get your info straight and learn how to spell the player's name correctly.

I say we rally together and all boo Chile in this way. See if the drums can drown out 300 boos. If they say thats what soccer is about lets show them!!

Anonymous said...

Dont boo them. Cheer them louder and give them forty more drums. Bring the noise thats what this tournament is about.

I dare say that that all of the games on Sunday are going to determine many pools. Scotland vs. Ukraine! Chile vs. Norway!

Anonymous said...

We should set something straight here: Norway will not play like they did the first two games. They are obviously going to come out and play with a lot more fire when they feel that their position at the top is seriously threatened. Their win last year was no fluke because they THRIVE IN CLOSE GAMES!

Thanks for the inspiration Eddie, like we needed it already.

Valhalla

Anonymous said...

I hope Norway absolutely pummels Chile and shuts them up.

Anonymous said...

Nobody is shutting up here and I'm glad to get some kind of response from Norway cause up to this point it has looked like they've been asleep on the pitch. I can't wait for sunday that's where a lot of people will shut up but I'm sure they'll still find a reason to bitch about us and our style of play and he we cut and who we didn't cut it's just a matter of time
EDDIE

Anonymous said...

Chile is the new ROI.

Anonymous said...

no ROI is good.
Eddie do you play for chile?

Anonymous said...

I think it would be great for all the other fans to boo the chile fans. Then the chile fans will get louder, and bang their drum louder. Then the other fans will start booing louder. and on and on. The more noise the better. the problem is that drum alon could probably drown out 300 boos

Anonymous said...

For your info I haven't been playing because I injured my ankle in an exhibition game. I played a couple of minutes in the game against Italy to test it out. I'm not sayin I'm the best player on the pitch but I do play a part in every team I have ever played in. I dont need to defend my play all my teammates know what I can do as a defender and that's enough for me I dont need approval coming from a blog site.

Anonymous said...

These blogs are great because it shows the pation everyone has for the game I love. My only regret is that it seems to get too personal. I don't even know Eddie, and I can sense his frustration at being insulted by somebody who is pretty brave on the computer but most likely would never stand up in front of his face to insult him. This tournament should be about bringing our soccer community together and putting aside our differences. I believe in being competetive and leaving everything on the field, I hate loosing. But at the end of the day this is a gentleman's game and what's done and said on the field should be left on the field. I try and look at it through my 8 year olds eyes, he is developing a passion for the game because of this tournament, he loves to watch great players from all the teams such as Norway, Chile, England, ROI, Laos, Scotland. Imagine if every team in the future stacked thier teams with amazing highly talented players, what a tourney that would be!! Be proud to be a part of it, you are part of the necessary process of making our sport the "cool" sport to play for kids coming up, not always having to think that hockey and football is. Let's encourage each other and let the shite RSA know how to raise soccer to a new level in this city, lord knows they have never been able to do it right. Good luck to all and may the best team win on any given day!!!

Anonymous said...

soccer would be alot cooler if players all over the world stopped diving all the time. i think its ruining the game, it makes soccer players look like pussy's. it's supposed to be a contact sport. if u want to dive go to 4 a swim. and people that pretend they are injured to waste time on the clock sicken me!! u know who u are

Anonymous said...

Totally agree with that!! There has to be some contact, as long as it is done in a clean way. When the contact is there just because you feel like hitting someone, that's not right. But when you have two guys shitkicking each other face to face from the front and with no needless beaking, that's great. Nothing worse than watching a game at the bar on the big screen and you see the reaction of non soccer fans watching some guy roll around like he's been shot. Even worse is the replay that shows there was no contact. Diving has to stop!!!!

Anonymous said...

I think that starts with Chile and Jerson.

Anonymous said...

mike collins, carl dahle?

Anonymous said...

clearly whoever is beaking this jerson kid, is either pissed cause he scored on you, or just hate him cause hes good. diving is part of the game, yes sometimes it looks cheap but thats why you have a ref and hes the one who makes the decisions..in europe and latin american countries teams do what ever to win.. its part of the game .. just accept it!

Anonymous said...

Man Chile did not live up to the hype. I watched them today vs. Austria and they barely squeaked out a win. They will make it out of their pool but I think they are sitting middle of the pack overall. They are lucky that they are in such a weak pool or else they would have a hell of a time getting out.

Anonymous said...

To start this ramble off, Props to Eddie... I am very impessed that only only you express your opinion but you are not scared to post your name.
Everyone else that tries to beak why not post your name and show who you are?
I post my name and you can say what ever you want about Julio, yet Julio don't need to talk if he is good or not on the pitch, he'll let his playing and his resume do the speaking.

Secondly, I would never place Mike Collins in the same category as Jerson. Jerson is a soccer player and plays to win. To win you must do whatever it takes to get a goal, a dive happens every now and then... watch the pros, I think they may dive every now and then?
As for Collins, he is an all-star in his on mind. He goes to games to insult players and tell them how good he is... but please in the last years what has Mike Collins done and where has he been?
If Mike Collins has ever acheived anything to go with his attitude, I will retract anything I have said.

Lastly Chile needs to pck up their game. It is true.

Should be a good game tomorrow. Get lots of fans out.

Anonymous said...

are you kiddin me...Jerson is a joke, a guy who has not played soccer in 3 yrs man marked him and took him out of the game and the goal he scored today, was a bullsh_t call jerson didnt get fouled, he dove just as usual, Jerson should go into Diving, not soccer, oh wait his dad owns a surfing shop, i guess thats where he learned how to dive.

Anonymous said...

Julia, you are an idiot to praise diving. Who cares if the pros do it. They don't brag about it like you seem to be doing. They day is coming when diving will start to be punished with video replay. When that day comes, it won't be in the pro game anymore (or as much) and the only place it will happen is places like this where little bit*hes will fall around because they are too weak of players to do anything else.

Andy

Not_Anonymous said...

As much as I don't like it, diving is a part of the game. Hopefully it can be eliminated with the help of video reply, but with that comes the long wait while referees review tapes and even then sometimes you cannot tell. I dislike it a lot but if a player can use it to his or her advantage I can see why they would do it.

If you are on a break away with a quick defender coming up and you know they will catch you before you can get a good shot, a dive could be the difference between a wasted chance and a penalty kick. The same can be said for dirty tackles. I don't agree with it but sometimes it needs to be done to make or prevent a huge play. I don't dive and I don't respect divers, but I understand where they are coming from in wanting to dive. People will do anything to win.

Anonymous said...

I will agree that Jerson's PK in the tournament was a "dive". I say "Dive" because there was contact, but Jerson made it look much much better then it actually was. Yet there was contact.

Today, diving was minimal; and yet the Ref in charge of the Chile vs Norway game called minimal fouls. I am not saying Chile should have won, because Norway did get the win and that is not being argued. I am just saying that alot of fouls were being termed a dives when there was no attempt to dive.
I find it ridiculous that a ref would hold a standard from three games back and say that every player on Chile is a diver.

I am not saying there wasn't a dive or two, because there were a few dives, but there was also a few blatan fouls that were termed as dives were you could hear the whack being delivered from the stands. When players are getting off the pitch with visible whacks, clearly not everything is a dive!

Yet diving is a part of many professional sports. Athletes who want to win will bend the rules to get whatever advantage that they can. Yes, it's part of the game and dives happen.

Andy Wyatt, great of you to make an appearence on the blog and to post your name. I may not agree with your opinion, but I respect the fact that you had to courage to say what you had to say with your name.

by: Who makes all the ladies say O!!!!...... Julio

I couldn't stay quiet the entire tournament Julio, especially when the topic is diving. Sorry I called your sister an idiot but I couldn't help it. It appears the negative aspect of diving has come back to haunt your team though doesn't it? I didn't see the game but according to your post, it appears the ref refused to call fouls in your favour because Chile now has a reputation for diving. I have not seen any of Chile's games but based on the comments and Julio's opinion that diving is OK, my guess is it is somewhat of a fair reputation. If it has caused you to not get calls you deserve, who is to blame? Diving may help you win a game but it can also cost you too. As I think you put it earlier Julio, it is up to the refs to handle diving, it looks like they have.

Andy

Anonymous said...

Bah hahah What makes the ladies say oh!! ... Julio!! Hahah ooooh Good times!!

By: Miguel!!!

Anonymous said...

I am not saying diving is a skill that you should take days to train and practice with, but it is part of the game.
Diving may have occurred, but not in the amount that the Chile team has been criticized for.
The problem is that the more skilled players are getting positioning on defenders only to be run from behind; players are getting around defenders only to be taken down.
I understand that the ref's have been instructored to let some of the play go; but at the same time there is a line that they have to draw where they believe everything is a dive.

I highly doubt that any player would continually attmept to dive all game after one or two weren't called early in the game. Why would a player working hard to get to goal, all of the sudden dive when he knows the ref won't be making the call?
That's the problem that most people do not realize; why would a player waste their time diving when they hav been getting whacked all game with no calls being made, only to have to ball turned over?

So in my opinion the refs need to stop trying to be a hero and trying to clamp down on diving, when really the players are being whacked around, which allows bigger teams to put a stop to Chile's attack.... and having a team whack players in order to stop them from attacking is far worse then diving.

Andy, it is quite alright; Julia has been struggling with english that she only was able to read every third word. So I doubt she even knew you insulted her.

Group is soo bad and if norway and chile actually think they have a chance of winning they will run into a surprise. They will most likely lose the first roung of playoffs. Ireland is a joke because they just completely stacked there team? Are they even having fun. Laos has a pretty strong team some wat similar to ireland. Every other team absolutley blows but at least they are having fun doing it. Whoever makes it to the final Ireland or Laos will win.

Anonymous said...

I think Rep. Of Ireland should give Mike Collins a few beers so he can play better than he is right now.

Anonymous said...

Whoa Whoa

Before you go and start saying that Julio is a bitch and diver and also saying that Collins should be the best defender in the tournament.

Well first off yes Collins is ugly and people should be frightened, and secondly he shouldn't be the best defender tournament because if it wasn't for his rank ass tallness he would be the worst player today and hes the worst diver in this tourney!!

And now as for my buddy Julio being a bitch and a diver I don't think he's diver what's so ever .. And ya he can be a bitch at times but you know what that's LIFE and deal with it!! And for you people think that he's a diver well look at the game yesterday against Norway .. There should of been so many calls from both side but the Ref coming from PA who doesnt know anything about the game letted soo much BS calls. He also can't ref a CMISL game!!

So all Chile has to do in order to get to the ship is Pick up their game and kick it up a notch for each game they go thru!!

Thanks all I ask man.

For people with such powerful opinions, I am shocked that they can't posts names. The only one that has really stepped up and voiced his opinion with his own name is Andy Wyatt and Eddie and I respect that.

I was never trying to hide who Julio was for the genius who thought he had solved the greatest mystery to hit Regina. I would clearly love to know who you are aswell, because you seemed like a true genuis that it would be an honour to meet you.

I am retiring from replying to any messages that do not have a name attached to them. Julio doesn't want to waste his time by people who hide behind their computer screens where no one can see them as they feel powerful dropping comments but then need to mask their identity as true cowards.

As for being a bitch, sure. I do not go out to make friends with people. You either hate me or you don't and good for you. I play to win. If that means some people dislike me, then so therfore dislike me. If you noticed I rather not spend my time getting into conversations on the field with players about how bad they think I am; I much rather voice my displeasure towards the refs and that may not be the smartest thing, but it happens. As for being a diver, yea I may have dove during the tournament; yet I am not a complete idiot who will dive when the ref isn't making any calls. I tried to stay on my feet against Norway for the most part, but it was a little difficult when I was getting tossed around by some big defenders.

Um ok? Julio is just ignoring anymore questions without a name; so more importantly is how does the draw shape up for the second round?
and what are the predictions?

Bottom line, learn to read jackass.

1) A1:Norway vs C2:Ukraine
2) C1:Scotland vs A2:Chile
3) B1:Ireland vs D2:England
4) D1:Laos vs B2:Germany

Norway and Chile are set, ROI and Germany are set, Laos has clinched first and I doubt England will lose to Greece. The only pool that I think is really up in the air is pool C. I hope Jamaica beats Scotland so those two teams come out, but Scotland has looked very strong so far and Jamaica not so much. As much as Ukraine has been struggling, they will beat Canada and if Jamaica loses, they will move on.

1) Should be a great game, two under-performing powerhouses will likely step up in the playoffs and deliver the best game of this round. Norway takes it in OT/Shoot out.

2) Chile will not be able to handle Scotland's fire power and strong defense, just like with Norway. Scotland wins 4-2.

3) Considering everyone here were teammates on the Accelerators, it could be more interesting than the rest of ROI's games. ROI 6-2.

4) Laos is too dominant and Germany won't be able to handle the speed, control, and finishing. Laos 5-3.

I know what to expect putting my opinion out here, but I will ask anyways, if you are going to disagree with me, do it respectfully and tell me why you think my opinions are the dumbest you have ever heard, because the rest of us already know they are the dumbest you have ever heard. I am talking to YOU anonymous. (I look forward to Julio's critique as he will at least give reasoning to his opinion)

Anonymous said...

I think those are realistic predictions. That is except for ukraine keeping it close against norway. They have not performed well up until this point and I dont think they will be able to beat canada by the five goals that I've heard they need to win by.
If I'm wrong correct me please because I'd like to know. I think NI will advance with scotland becasue I cant see Jamiaca winning along with a canada win.

Anonymous said...

Hahaha, DUMB DUMB, for some reason that just made me laugh. I know it's stupid but the 3rd grade humour just kills me.

To perhaps voice the most unpopular thoughts on this website ever, I'm sick of a bunch of anonymous dicks cutting down Giroux and Collins, especially Collins. I've played against Collins and I have called him every name in the book while playing but after the game, I don't mind the guy. He's done some stupid stuff but a lot of young guys have. He is a decent guy that sometimes can get a little too competitive. Sure he can be a dick sometimes but usually it is to people who aren't too nice to him anyways. Anyone who says he is a crappy player is an idiot. He's not the best player in Saskatchewan but I've seen him play games where he was the best player on the field. Everyone blames him for everything bad that happens. I'm surprised he hasn't been blamed for the recent cold weather. With his antics he deserves some jokes but c'mon already, it's getting ridiculous.

Andy

Anonymous said...

lets comment on games. Norway and chile could play any of the teams in group c. If Jamaica wins they play chile and norway plays scotland. if scotland wins then scotland plays chile and norway plays canada or ukraine unless canada and ukraine tie then NI will go through. then who ever wins from there will surely meet laos and ROI in the semis.. what do you guys think?

Anonymous said...

Andy, well said on your opinion. I will not agree or disagree with you.
All I'll say is that there are plenty of reasons why Collins and Grioux are disliked.
Just like why Julio isn't everyone's number one golden boy, but to me I could care less. Off the field antics and remarks made to players on the field by certain individuals do not help their case.

I'm glad you got a good laugh but DUMB DUMB is actually directed at a certain individual who will actually know who they are, hence the capital letters.

As for the predictions anonymous this is just for you; I wasn't going to comment seeing as you didn't post with a name unlike Andy but seeing as you personally added Julio in your comment I felt obliged to atleast reply;

1) I don't know much about Ukraine but have played against Norway. If the refs let the fouls go as they did against Chile, they are a real big defensive team which makes it really difficult to beat. I say Norway takes it in a low scoring affair as they do not have the most potent offense. 2-1

2) Not very familiar with Scotland either, but did catch some of their game on Saturday. Don't know where they are going to get the fire power from as the only attacker that stood out was that young kid who had good dangles but never went anywhere. If I'd have Chile to lose, I may aswell not even go to the game and play; so I am picking Chile in a high scoring game. 5-3.

3)England has some good players, such as Josh Northey; but they also have some old wheels on the squad that may struggle against Ireland. Ireland wins this lopsided affair 7-2 which has the potential to get quite physical.

4)Right now Loas is looking like the team to beat. Solid goal keeping and a good team that does well as a group. A couple goals from Steve Irinici and Loas takes this game 4-1.

I want germany to beat laos. Hard to believe but its true. If germany plays their best they havea chance. Chile wont beat scotland. And alvaro grow up about the refereeing. You guys didnt deserve half the calls you got. Poor england...poor chile

Anonymous said...

If your going to call me about by name atleast post your name.

Of course Chile isn't going to win, Chile is expected to be the worst team and suppose to lose every game, and I love that. I think what all you anonymous haters have failed to realize is that Julio came on here to generate a more hype for Chile. Hype which therefore leads to more attendance, hype which leads to a better atmosphere that gives the players better environment to play in. All the Julio chants during the game vs Norway; whether from the Chile fans, or Chile haters were actually sweet. Sorry to admit it anonymous haters but you did exactly what I wanted; you created more attention for Chile, which leads to a better atmosphere to play in. So therefore I love the fact that you guys are beaking me and taking personal shots, because at the end of the day I don't care, but I would care if I was playing in dull atmosphere like the Ukraine vs Scotland game where I could almost here a pin drop. So anonymous haters, give yourself a pat on the back, by you ripping on Chile you just gave Chile the best propaganda possible and you didn't even realize it!

AGAIN to reitteriate a point, why would a player continually keep diving if no calls are being made?

AGAIN, the tournament is structure to allow more physical to happen; so it's understandable.

AGAIN, I think I may have said something about having dove before, yet I highly doubt that I would send myself flying after I have just megged the last defender and have a chance to score. If you haven't noticed the best part of this tournament is being able to celebrate and I would love to take full advantage of that. Ontop of that I don't get to take every single free kick, therefore why would I want to dive when I have a chance to go to goal myself.

I can appreciate a good clean, tough challenge. I love delivering them, therefore you should be able to appreciate them. I will not agree to the fact that the Ref did a good job in the Norway game; that's my opinion... now get over it. I did not come on and say that Chile should have won because the ref didn't call every single foul, nor did I say Chile should have throttled Norway. Anonymous comments like yourself are just ridiculous now, especially if you still believe I am Miguel. Actually read what is written and then comment. I know big words may be hard to digest but live with it.

I think it's ridiculous that an anonymous poster who hides behind a computer is telling me to grow up. Like just post your name. If I could I'd even post a picture to go with my name so everyone could see who was talking. So how bout you tell me your name, meet me on the pitch, and I kick the piss out of you and we'll see how hard it is to stay on your feet every time.

You don't pump your own tires? What about when you "megged the last defender". All you do is talk about yourself. Or how you're so much more manly for posting your name on the internet from a different city. Way to step up. Also I can't believe you are talking about bad reffing in the Norway-Chile game. HE DISALLOWED A NORWAY GOAL! Usually if the ref disallows a goal for the other I think he's done a decent job.

Anonymous said...

Your a complete idiot, who else am I going to talk about seeing as you won't even post with your name?
Holy fuck like honestly, do you read before you post!?!?!

Um yes, I believe that a goal doesn't count if the whistle was blown before the shot was taken? I don't know, it's just one of the rules that makes no sense.

Ya and? The meg occurred and it was used as an example to against why I was called a diver?

Honestly, stop with the ridiculous anonymous posts that are pointless! Post your name so I can therefore rip you down personally, it will be a fun change. Let's Try it.

i think you should stop writing on this blog and start improving your game

Norway Defender that you didnt meg

Not_Anonymous said...

"Usually if the ref disallows a goal for the other I think he's done a decent job"

I think that is horrible logic. If the ref disallows a goal that should be disallowed then yes he has done a decent job, but some refs disallow goals that should not be disallowed and if that is the case, then obviously they are not doing a good job. Either way they make good calls and bad calls every game and we all just need to deal with it because no one else in this city is willing to step up and ref.

I do not ref either, I think I would be a terrible ref as I am too indecisive, but I try my best to not bash the referees because at least they are doing a job that no one else seems to want to do.

Anonymous said...

Honestly like are you serious right now? A Norway defender telling me to work on my game; this was prolly the same guy that yelled in my face when they scored a goal and was on the brink of tears after the match because it had just been the biggest game of his life. For a second the defender actually thought this was the 2008 World Cup final! New flash buddy, the World Cup is every four years, and I don't think Regina won a bid to host it till 2014. This was prolly the defender that I left behind as he tried to catch up while I scored the goal; although I guess you are unreal great defending if you didn't get megged but got ran past to allow a goal!

I would say I did alright seeing as not only were the defenders intelligent enough to allow me to post them up as deep in their own zone, to therefore create a huge pocket of space in the midfield to allow the mids to have space to play, but they needed to have another defender front me. So I would say I was doing alright if I had the attention of two defenders and created space for my teammates.

I don't know why there's a big controversy about the disallowed goal, the whistle was blown and then the player shot? Clearly that is a no goal in whatever sport your playing.

Im sick of this anonymous trash talkers. Julio if you want I can find out the postees ICP addi and then give you the name of the person or people who is posting without a name. Then we'll see who still is talking smack

Holy shit boys! let's stop with the personal shots and make this a forum for intellectual soccer dialogue. It amazes me at how much useless garbage spews onto this blog (specifically you, one liner boy, with no name). My curse is that I work from home so this blog sometimes feels like I'm looking at a bad accident, can't stop looking. I enjoy reading comments from people who actually know the game and not from shitballs that have "little man syndrom" and feel like big men posting on this blog with no name. As for Julio, I have had the pleasure of playing with him, he is a solid team player who knows the game. As an old guy in this tournament it's great to have the opportunity to play with talented young players who do not put themselves on a pedastal because they think they are too good for thier teamates. Julio has not put himself above his teamates on the bench or in the locker room. This goes for all of the Saskatoon boys.

So please if I am going to lose my job because I read too many blogs at least make it worthwhile. Take sometime and think about what you are about to post. Should you want to keep insulting people at least post your name. Be proud of who you are!!!

Anonymous said...

Oh I can't say enough about the Chile fans & teammates! This tournament was a great experience and the appreciation and care that we have recieved from both our fans and teammates has been second to none! I know for myself and Jerson that we really appreciate how we have been treated and how we have been included! Writing my final on Turbo speed saturday morning was the only option as making the trip down has been more then worth it.

Sadly the anonymous bloggers are actually the ones that are getting angry and upset. I am being hit with personal shots and I joke around about what is being said about me; which makes for great party conversation with the guys when drunk! What blows my mind is that there was a conscious effort made the change the topic to go back to soccer talk and predictions for the tournament only to have someone take it right back to Julio beaks, which is sweet cause then maybe even more ladies will come watch and see what new celebration Julio has planned out if he manages to score again! Looking at my ratio though, it may be not for another three games till I score again!

Most of the time the comments are very sarcastic and you have to have to a personal conversation with me to fully understand and appreciate the sarcasm that Julio is dropping.

Wow...I leave for awhile and come back to find to find 40 more comments on an old post. Time to clean 'em up a bit.

Julio and Andy: I love the fact that you've posted your names and continue to comment on this blog. Keep up the good work, and if anyone has any concerns, let me know.

Big games tonight.

Anonymous said...

That's exactly what I am talking about. Props for running your mouth and try to think your good; sadly any good comment just seems very bitchassed when you don't have the balls to post your name!
I would have concurred if you made fun of my scoring ability, but I actually can defend? Just pick up your game when you post and might aswell post anonymously as your just embarassing with those weak beaks.

I would hope I haven't hit my prime, I an enetering my twenties and supposedly a players prime is around 23-27. Clearly Andy is past his prime, but atleast he posts with his name and isn't afraid of a couple beaks.

I think I will have to correct you Julio I believe anonymous was talking about me. Well bud thanks for stating the obvious and I appreciate you acknowledging that I even had a prime. I'm just happy to still be strapping up the boots, I have accomplished everything I've needed to accomplish in soccer, I owe the sport alot. Do you play anonymous? Why all the anger issues? Did nobody ever love you? Listen if you know who I am, just come up to me at the facility and I'll buy you a beer and discuss your issues, I'm a great listener.

Not to disagree with you but I believe Scotland will win tonight. They are pretty strong in the back and if Tavis gets his feet going tonight Jamaica will have a tough time stopping him. On the other hand Kevin Holness will definatley have the team well prepared mentally. But... I still say Scotland.

Anonymous said...

Wow, I don't know what Julio was doing but he didn't even noticed that you posted with a name!
Well fair enough Max, I will stand corrected!

I agree with Max, Tavis is a nice player with some good dangles; what makes the difference will be if the kid actually plays effectively and uses his dangles to go forward and attack! Yet you can count of Javis, he will be bringing in another beauty goal via bicycle!

Does the winner play Chile, or how does that Pool work out?

By: Julio

First place in C plays second in A. So basically the winner of that games gets first place and plays Chile.

I think the fight with anonymous posters is beginning to get old. We all know the guys who trash talk under anonymous titles will never post a name so why even bother calling them out. It drags it on when we could just ignore them and carry on with real discussions.

Don't worry fellows, I am taking Jeri to the gym tonight to train. That little guy is going to be jacked by Thursday, no one will push him off the ball!

We are having way to much fun that if Thursday was our last game that would be terrible, especially for our Chilean fans. Nothing compares to scoring a goal and celebrating hard!

I agree, I was even getting bored of the one lined beaks; I would have given props if they would have been good, but they were just embarassing sometimes.

Jamaica vs Scotland: 2-2..

This means a win by Ukraine (which is very likely) will have a three way tie for 2nd and Ukraine will take it based on goal differential. What a pool!

Anonymous said...

And that was the case sir! Ukraine is through!!!!!

Anonymous said...

By goal difference, i bet they just feel all warm and fuzz inside about that, for a team that was supposed to dominate. They should enjoy it while it lasts, Norway will shit stomp them.

Not_Anonymous said...

I am sure they feel a lot more warm and fuzzy than the 12 teams who didn't move on. Ukraine is very good, they just had trouble finishing. If they finish the way they did vs. Canada, Norway will be in for an intense game, by far the best game of the round.

Anonymous said...

that game is going to be sick! Ukraine's mid finally scored and killed canada inside. Only shitty thing for them is that the midfield is the strongest part of Norway's game. They have probably the best mid, besides roi in the tournament.

The game is going to be won there seeing that the teams match up squarely pretty much everywhere else. It is going to be tight and low scoring.

Anonymous said...

Norway is a big, strong, physical team. To say that their midfielders are better then Chile's you need to provide a reason why? Better is tooo broad of a statement with no reasoning behind it.

I would say that the Norway in general is a more physical and stronger team than Chile, but I would say that the Chile team is a more technical team then Norway.

By: Julio

Anonymous said...

I will agree with you, but I believe that Chile did not play as physical as they can. There are many players on Chile that can play more physical and aggressive than they did against Norway. Chile seemed to let Norway come at them where Norway did not give Chile the same courtesy. Chile has great touch on the ball and they can move it around but they need to step up abit in the physical aspect of the game. Go for every ball and win it from thier opponents. If they can do that coupled with thier obvious talent, they will be victorious.

LONG LIVE CHILE!!!

Anonymous said...

Seeing as Chile will never see Norway again. Its irrelevant.

Anonymous said...

Maybe so, but the point is, Chile needs to get more agressive and physical being careful of course that it does not become thier primary focus. They also must pick up thier long range shooting. You have to shoot in this tournament to be successful.

Um no, to clarify for you; the reason you guys hate/love Julio & Chile is because you in reality get upset over meaningless posts that are all jokes! ahah
It's ridiculous how offended and angry people get over a sarcastic comment!
So you can say what you want, but really the joke has always been on you; hence why I have not cared about personal attacks!
Wow, realx, enjoy life and realize that a blog is just a blog!

By: Julio and his braggart ways

Anonymous said...

You are the one who writes in it like its your diary. And its true because of you Chilean are getting the bad rep.

Not_Anonymous said...

Not everyone on the blogs come on here to fight and put people down. To some of us it is just something fun to do. You can tell the difference between people like that and the rest pretty easily. The main difference is that the people who take this all too seriously constantly make personal attacks and get angry and all that. Simply writing a lot on here does not mean we take it too seriously, it just means we enjoy writing on here.

I don't add my name because some people on here do take things too seriously and the way I see it, things said on here should stay on here so there is no point in leaving my name. Having said that, anyone intending to call out anyone else should leave a name, or else you are a coward. I do not attack individuals so there is no need to leave a name. I can still be held accountable for anything I say because it is always under the same username.

Like Julio said, enjoy the blog for what it is and have fun with it rather than trying to tear down everyone else.

Anonymous said...

That is just unlucky, I thought when I typed in Julio's diary this page came up?! Wow I might have to call my interenet explorer provider and ask them what the hell is going on!

As for whoever is the anonymous poster trying to make himself feel intelligent and powerful by saying comments via a computer; it was funny what happens when your a no longer behind a computer. Friday night I heard a Julio beak about his modelling career and I looked back interested to see who the wise guy was.
It was incredible to see how fast the person with the comment tried to hide, then when I came back and walked again he even tried to make an apology for his comment.

I enjoyed playing for Chile and have a great respect for the way they treated me and the other guys on the team. It was a great time off and on the field. It was no secret to them who Julio was and jokes were even made during lates nights about ridiculous comments that were made. Julio didn't make an appearence on the blog to insult anyone as Non-A pointed out, nor did I make personal attacks or put down the tournament in any way. So if by crazy loonies who get upset over a paragraph on a blog is a horrid thing to do, then well I guess that I am just shit out of luck.

PS. Hopefully this was long enough, as seeing as this was my diary I did feel entitled to writing a long long long spill today! Yet I am bored of hearing meaningless opinions by non name posters that Julio is no longer wasting his time.

"Oh Thank god, no more Julio"... I may aswell write it before tough guy who will hide in person types it from his computer screen.

Anonymous said...

You are writing on a computer too you do realize. Tough guy.

Anonymous said...

Let's talk about the shoot out for Chile. What a huge mistake by their coach. You have 2 master players who have nothing but talent and experience and from what i have known of them or can recall 1st hand never missed a penalty shot in their lives. I am talking about Marco Salazar and Marco Fuentos (spelling).. Mike Montenegro should of picked them to shoot and did not. I can't understand the philosophy behind this as they would of had 2 goals for sure. He should of put them shooters #1 and #2 or 1 and 3 and they would of taken all momentum away from Scotland. I can't understand that but that just blew all of the work getting to the 1/4 finals and through it all away. Mike made a big mistake and i know some of the veterans will maybe never play again for him. To bad.

Anonymous said...

Those old guys would be tired by the time they got to the ball on a penalty kick.

Not_Anonymous said...

Those old guys were still running hard and playing with those younger guys. Show them a little respect. If you can still play as good as them when you are their age then good on you. The unfortunate thing is that anonymous never grows old.. only more ignorant and idiotic with time.

Anonymous said...

Well no, I am behind a computer?! That's crazy talk! You don't get my live web cam feeds that I post along with every comment?!

Yes I agree, that some of the more experienced players should have shot; at the same time it's hard to decide who the best shooters are when you've never had your full team together to determine your top five shooters. Mike made a decision and it wasn't because of his fault that Chile lost the game. The game should have never gone into a shoot out where it becomes a toss up. I wouldn't say that any shooter is a guarnteed goal, as J.D. did well to make saves that anyone could have been stopped.

By: Julio

Anonymous said...

No way Annibal should of shot, I would rather had Marco Salazar, M. Fuentues, and Christian Leon, nothing aganist Annibal but those guys have experience.

Anonymous said...

Ya what was he thinking? I dont even know how Annibal even touched the field, should of just stayed on the stayed with the fans pounding the drums, cause thats all hes really good at.

Anonymous said...

Chile, who are these guys thinking they can walk all over everyone, they must be embarrased what a bad team.

Anonymous said...

no they were not that bad. they just had the wrong coaching decision at the wrong time for the 1/4's they should of had the experienced players taking the pk's instead of young nervous players. look at 2 years ago that is what happened to germany as canada had 4 out of the 5 master players shoot and they won. put youth in there with out experience and they will mess up. That was mike montengro's fault for letting the young guys shoot. poor, poor, poor mistake on his part. he thought he was going to look great leading them to the semi's and possibly winning as a coach in the youth but ended up blowing both.
