Day 3 Recap

Ireland vs. Botswana- 7-1 Ireland- Playing a weaker team once again, Ireland took an early lead against Botswana and never looked back. Botswana played hard, but Ireland passes and shoots much better. Ireland's first test of the tournament will come Thursday against Germany.

Ukraine vs. Jamaica- 2-1 Jamaica- Jamaica and Ukraine both tied Northern Ireland, meaning the winner of this matchup would have a much easier road to the second round. Jamaica scored early on Ukraine, and Ukraine was once again forced to make a comeback. The game went back and forth, with both teams having their chances. Ukraine tied it right before half. Jamaica scored their second goal a little after halftime, and Ukraine pressed hard to get the goal back. They hit a couple posts and and had some bad breaks, but fact remains they couldn't score. Jamaica played very well and looks once again like a solid contender after a sketchy performance vs. Northern Ireland. Every game in this pool will have an effect on who will come out. Group C is heating up!

Laos vs. Portugal- 4-2 Laos- Laos came out flying to score 3 quick goals, going up 3-0. They looked to have the game in hand before Portugal scored 2 very quick goals to make the game seem suddenly very close. Both Laos and Portugal had a number of chances, and this game seemed poised to go down to the wire. Laos solidified the game a little later with their 4th goal. Laos seems to have taken command of this pool, and the decisive game now looks to be Greece vs. England.

I think Chile has the LOUDEST FANS with music and ALL!!!!

If that is the determining factor, then what motivates huge underdogs to get results against powerhouse like Jamaica and Ukraine?

How can you say Chile fans are annoying? This tournament is about soccer and culture and the fans bring culture to the pitch. Watching a team Chile game is probably the closest we will get to a real soccer game and it would be a lot better if there weren't people in the crowd constantly complaining about noises. Enjoy the game and the atmosphere people, we are lucky to have this tournament.

P.S. Signing a first name only is almost as anonymous as Anonymous. People still don't know who you are and really people don't need to know. Blogs are about what is said and not who says it. And I have learned that attaching a name to any comment just leaves you open to be ripped on by all of those immature people who leave the ignorant comments.

Chile's fans are very annoying, but they are good for the atmosphere and the constant chanting makes the game more intense. They're good for the tournament, but I can't stand them.

all the people that can't stand the crown noise should just leave the building. Soccer is all about yelling and screaming fans that will do anything to cheer on their favorite team! Luckily we haven't had any "soccer riots" .....yet....haha!

oops..typo at the above comment... *crowd* noise before anyone picks it out...

I agree that soccer is about the fans completely, but in saying that, you should not be telling fans who don't like it to leave. Instead, if you really don't like the sound of Chile's fans, don't leave, drown them out with your own noise. I doubt you can annoy yourself with cheering so if that is all you can hear then you should be good to go.

The atmosphere that this tournament brings is second to none. The skill level of soccer is not the best, but what makes this tournament such a success is the environment. The fan support, excitement and enjoyment of the game is very hard to find in North America. Goals are celebrated with joy when they are scored in Europe and in South America, and the atmosphere at this tournament provides a great environment for that. It brings a feel of professional soccer too many players that will never have the chance to experience it. The feeling of playing in front of 20,000 adoring fans is remarkable, and for many this is as close as they will get to experience that.

Fans are not supposed to enjoy each other. Different fans celebrate a game differently. The Chile fans are one of a kind, and their support is much appreciated. Yes some people will dislike other team's fans, but until you have those fans cheering you; you don't understand the quality of fans that the Chile fans are.

PS. I post only as Julio as the people who know Julio is, know who I am. Other then that, it's irrelevant whether you know Julio or not.

Thats the problem with people here in regina, they have no knowledge of the game of football. Chile fans are how your supporters are supposed to act during a game of football... Im sick and tired of people with the slightest of knowledge making comments about " oh their to loud" thats bs and if you knew the game you would be thankfull we have some real fans, making the game as professional as can be.. Also like to say what a great job colombian fans are doing as well as Laos and all the other teams with good team support. Keep up the loud noise, its encouraging for players on the pitch and anyone who's annoyed should never ever go to a game of football, do yourselfs a favor..

i Couldnt agree any more

Not_Anonymous said...

I could.. I don't think that we should be telling people who don't appreciate the noise to leave the sport. Soccer in Canada will never grow if the true fans just bash the rest of them. I agree that the noise is great and necessary for a good tournament, but lets encourage everyone to be loud, not to leave.
