Day 6 Recap

Colombia vs. England- 5-4 England- Colombia kept it close with England, but there rarely a time when it looked like England would lose. Colombia's had it tough, playing 3 games in 4 days, but they still looked good. It's too bad they got stuck in such a hard group. England has found it's scoring touch, and hopefully it all comes together for their game against a tough Greece team.

Ireland vs. Germany- 7-0 Ireland- Ireland dominated Germany. Germany's player losses hurt them bad, but Ireland just has way too much skill. They look hell-bent on revenge this year, and so far it seems that Laos is the only team standing in their path. The loss brings Germany back to Earth after winning some fairly easy games, and hopefully this shows Germany what they have to do to compete with the best teams.

wow! I thought Germany would at least put up a fight.

Anonymous said...

It looked like they were scared to play Ireland. No tackling and sat back the whole game.
They showed that they are not a threat anymore.

Germans are weak. The reason they are never ready for their games is because they think they know everything. They suck!
Serbia is going to hammer them.

puts things in perspective for us. not going to make excuses about losing, just makes us want to go out and thrash serbia like everyone knows we will.

go germany!
They were hitting crossbars and posts a lot against Ireland, and they didn't have some good players either. It'll be a different story next time Germany plays a good team.

Anonymous said...

You must have watched a different games. I saw a Germany that could not get out of its half.

Anonymous said...

must have been watching different games... because they did hit 2 crossbars and a post, not to say they should have won, but those events did in fact take place

Anonymous said...

one of those crossbar hits was lucky... the guy just randomly shot it a little bit past half and he was lucky it hit the crossbar, germany has some good players but they dont know how to play together and that #2 guy should not play... he acts like a goon but he backs off when players start retaliating, hes just hurting your team and i havnt seen that ditter guy after the match against Botswana

Anonymous said...

we'll be full strength against serbia. I'm back from winnipeg lol. not that i makes a difference lol. But I will be doing some death tackles.

chile got lucky to beat austria

who does whittinghamthink he is ?? all he could tackle would be his own shadow

your mvp candidates suck

Anonymous said...

I think its hilarious that after starting 0-2 Canada could go on if they win there next game and scotland beats jamaica

Anonymous said...

who made those mvp candidate selections, i think your retarded

Anonymous said...

Hey anonymous complainers about the mvp candidates, what's your choice? In fact, I think I will make an equally brilliant comment about you. Hey anonymous guys, you suck and your mom is retarded!

Anonymous said...

Always making stupid comments with an anonymous title!
Always have an opinion, never able to back it up!
Good MVP input

Anonymous said...

i think i made fine picks. those players have proved they are worth it. every one contributes and is relied on by his team. if you think there such bad picks you make your own.
cheers

What happened to Jamaica last night? They made Mr Uefa and Canada look good.
Jamaica never showed up. There was no Keeper, midfield or wing. Where is Adam Chomos? They also need a Striker - Javier can't move. The whole team dribbled to beat hell, especially, Troy, their captain!
Why didn't Andrew B.. play? He has scored or helped set up most of Jamaica's goals. He didn't look injured.
Jamaica needs to beat Scotland to get out of their pool or Canada is through - how is that possible?
Holness better did deep into his bag of tricks!!

Wow did Norway ever tool on Chile. That's what happens when Norway decides they actually want to try. For everyone who thought Chile had a chance, good call

Anonymous said...

I hope this shuts some Chile people up.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, where was Jerson for the last two games? He didn't do anything against Austria or Norway after he lit up Poland and Italy. Poland and Italy. He should definintely be an all-star for being good against those two teams.
MVP should be Adam Rolfe because he's unstoppable on the wing. Norway uses him all the time as a set-up guy for their attack, even if he doesn't score that many goals. Stefan Husdal had some sick tackles in that game too. Overall, whole Norway team played good

i think you guys are forgetting that Pool c is still up for grabs, if jamaica loses, and canada and ukraine tie NI could still go through, if canada wins they go through but if jamaica wins none of this matters and scotland and jamaica go through. right now i dont think jamaica deserves to go through with their subpar play. GO SCOTLAND and im hoping for a tie, it would be great to see the dooley's not make it, and ukraine not make it at all. NI will get crushed by norway but who cares!

Anonymous said...

I think Canada dominated Jamaica. I think Canada finally showed that they can gel as a team and pull out some wins. For all the hype about Ukraine, they have really disappointed. Hopefully, Jamaica looses and the Canada vs. Ukraine game will decide it.

Perhaps, I will refresh every bodies memory that Canada was the only team to beat Norway last year. Lets hope Canada makes it through and Norway can redeem the loss or Canada can upset again.

Anonymous said...

I didn't see the Canada vs. Jamaica game but I did see the first two games that canada played. I would say that if Canada made it through that would be bad because they're just not good enough to give an interesting playoff game to any other team, especially Norway. Canada got badly beat by Scotland and NI and either of those teams would be much more deserving to make it through. That said, I would love to see Jamaica knocked out from playoff contention, especially if its from a team coached by Bob Maltman and Bill Brown. What does Kevin even say if that happens? Good times

Anonymous said...

canada was definitely not the same team that played scotland and NI. They absolutely destroyed Jamaica. No contest. Ukraine v Canada will be da bomb.

As long as Scotland keeps in mind how Jamaica screwed them last year, Scotland should come out angry and pound them.

.. and germany moves on to the quarterfinals

Anonymous said...

Scotland deserves to make it out of Group C and they surely will. They have played the most consistent so far. That being said, the remainder of Group C will have to fight it out. Who ever makes it through to the second round is deserving. Several teams have had chances to solidify their spots, but have failed to perform.

Anonymous said...

Hey what is happening to this blog has not been updated for last 3 days!!!

Anonymous said...

even if ukraine wins they still have to score more then 5 goals to go on or else NI will... i think its great because the team that goes on is gonna be the team that can perform the best under pressure

Anonymous said...

no, all ukraine has to do is win. If Scotland beats Jamaica, and Ukraine wins, they go through.

Anonymous said...

are you sure? Right now they have 2 points from their ties with scotland and NI. NI has the win over canada and the two ties for 5 points. Jamaica has the tie with NI and the ukraine win for 4.

It will come down to goals for I think. Mayeb someone should clarify that, but Ukraine would be screwed becasue their offense is anemic. They dont have nearly as many goals as NI.

I hope canada makes it through with scotland!

Not_Anonymous said...

I am pretty sure it is goal differential and if that is the case NI got lit up by Scotland so that puts them at a -2 GD. Right now Ukraine is at -1 so a win for them would put them at worst at 0. If I am wrong about it going to differential then I apologize and I say that goals for or goals against should never be the sole decider, that both should be taken into account because it should rely on both offense and defense.

But that is all assuming that Jamaica loses. Like others said, if Jamaica wins the group is secured and them and Scotland move on. Personally I hope they win. Ukraine stacked their team way too much and they deserve to lose out and be humbled. NI just gets annoying and they would never shut up about it if they made it through. I know guys on the team who already talk too much about their team (I don't put my name so I won't name names). Jamaica came in this year missing some star players and I would like to see them prove that a lot of practice and just solid ball control can help win even without stars but they will have to pick up their game if they want to beat Scotland.

Not_Anonymous said...

I checked out the rules and I was right, it goes to games between the two teams tied, then to goal differential, then goals for, then goals against. Since Ukraine will have to have a better GD if they beat Canada, a Jamaican loss and Ukraine win will put them through.

Anonymous said...

A Ukraine win and a Jamaican tie will also put them in.

Anonymous said...

cool thanks. Well in that case I hope that Canada wins and jamaica loses

Anonymous said...

I would have to say Javi's goal was the goal of the tournament so far. For those of you who missed it was a bicycle. What do you guys think?

Not_Anonymous said...

I am bored again so I am re-doing my rankings for the tourney. Again, criticize all you want but do it with reasons please.

1) Republic of Ireland (Last Ranked 1)- Walked all over everyone, and they showed complete dominance in all aspects of the game and no other team can say that.

2) Laos (Last Ranked 2)- Played very strong so far. Incredible ball control and the ability to finish from anywhere puts right near the top.

3) Norway (Last Ranked 3)- Haven't been playing their best yet but still undefeated even after playing Chile. With only Poland left to play, it looks like 4-0 will be their finish and they will be playing 2nd place in pool D.

4) Scotland (Last Ranked 7)- Have played well in a tough pool, and seem to be the only other team deserving of a top 5 spot. Have one more game against Jamaica to prove that they are the real deal.

5) England (Last Ranked 6)- Lots of hype leading into a 5-0 loss to Laos keeps them down a bit, but they came back and destroyed Portugal who is not a bad team. One game left to clinch 2nd place in the pool.

6) Germany (Last Ranked 5)- Have come out with a few big wins and are looking strong with a new experienced coach but showed they are no where near the level of ROI.

7) Chile (Last Ranked 8)- People love em' or hate em' but they came out strong in their weak pool, losing only to the undefeated defending champs. If they showed a little more dominance over Austria they may have been ranked higher.

8) Jamaica (Last Ranked 4)- Looked a little shaky at the start and then looked very bad against Canada. Hanging on by a thread, they have to show up Scotland if they want to move on to round 2.

9) Ukraine (Last Ranked 11)- Not living up to the hype, but tied a strong Scotland team and will more than likely beat Canada tomorrow and take the final spot in the pool, assuming Scotland beats Jamaica.

10) Portugal (Last Ranked 13)- Looked weak at first but then beat Greece in an upset then destroyed Colombia, leaving a small window of hope for a round 2 berth.

11) Norther Ireland (Last Ranked 9)- Looked surprisingly strong until Scotland got a hold of them. Still have a small chance of advancing if Jamaica loses and Ukraine and Canada tie, but it appears as though the bubble has burst.

12) Serbia (Last Ranked 12)- Came back and beat Nigeria after getting stomped by ROI, then lost a close one to Germany. Middle of their pool, middle of this pack.

13) Greece (Last Ranked 10)- Not playing like they were expected to, losing to Portugal and now needing to beat England to have a chance of moving on.

14) Canada (Last Ranked 15)- Beating Jamaica moves them up a spot, but they still lost to Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is tough to place them but I am not very impressed by them so far.

15) Austria (Last Ranked 18)- Beat Poland and gave Chile an intense run for their money. Looking much better than last year, which isn't necessarily saying much.

16) Colombia (Last Ranked 17)- Gave some good teams some good games, but 0 wins and an 8-3 loss to Portugal doesn't leave much room for jumping the rankings.

17) Poland (Last Ranked 20)- Poland wins a game! No 20th ranked teams win games, so Poland is no longer 20th.

18) Nigeria (Last Ranked 14)- One of the biggest disappointments of the tournament. Have not shown up to any games and even tied Botswana...

19) Botswana (Last Ranked 19)- The last few spots are a toss up but because they have some tougher games to play and they scored on ROI and tied Nigeria, they earned 19th.

20) Italy (Last Ranked 16)- Last place in a weak pool does not look good on any resume. I predicted a win or two for them but it looks like I was horribly wrong.

Javi goal was okay, but it was on an empty net, the only reason it would be consider one of the best is because he is a bigger guy and everyone is suprised he can still jump. A five year old could have scored it if they knew how to do it.

sorry for the double post

Pff! i love how everyone is saying that Jamaica is weak this year becuse there is no prime bros. and justin manz, k they are good players but not great! thats no excuse for them to have a "weaker" team. How bout you look at their young talent that have got on this team. Like Troy and the new player to join this year Andrew Banerjee. Man I would take those 2 together in the mid over the prime bros. And by the way Andrew B has been holdin it down in the midfield this year, settin up goals and scoring goals, YOU can see how is impact was missed when he sat out against canada, horrible gameplan or watever they were thinking. Troy was outta position all game and did not look comfortable and so was kevin.

Huge game tonight Canada vs. Ukraine pending the result of the Scotland Jamaica game.
