they have a shot. they aren't the most talented team, but anything can happen. Look at last year.
Norway has alot more skilled players then people give them credit for, and they play as a team. It's showed in this tournament that you can field an outstanding lineup filled with premier players, but if your team decides not to play as a team and play like individuals, then their skill can only get you so far. Greece is another prime example of that.

The top 5 teams are:
1. Republic of Ireland - loads of talent, many play togehter on ACFC and in the final 2 years in a row means they are #1
2. Norway - returning champs have to be near the top. They are more skilled than people give them credit for and they played as a team. Can they do it again this year though? Ego is a strange thing and ego's tend to increase after winning.
3. England - can you say "stack your team" anyone. And we thought ROI was bad when it comes to stacking the team, these guys make ROI look like they are following the rules. Loads of talent if rumours are true but can they bring all that talent together to play as a team? Will their Saskatoon players all be able to show up for the games?
4. Greece - a solid team last year but they may have picked up more talent this year to go with good team play.
5. Ukraine - lighting it up in Exhibition and still missing some good players. The real darkhorse of the tourney.

I didnt realized you all will research Brescia's website. Since i graduated in 2005 and played from 2002-2005 I probably wouldnt see me on the roster right either. About the conference it has been changed last year to an independent conference, but when i was playing we had 7 teams and besides us there were two top 25 teams in the country in our conference. Our region section was the toughest in all of NAIA. There is only one player on the roster now that i played with. I have played with and against players all throughout the world, which some went pro after college. The experience here has been great. I'm not on here to brag. I just found out tonight about all this other crap being said about me. I'm just coming home to play in this tourney to have fun and enjoy the festivities.
Give me a break. Brescia University. I know about 50 players who could easily make that team and thats just out of the under 16 league. We no longer want to here about you or N. ireland. Please take it upon yourself to destroy your computer.

So I found a roster for 2003 which was the only time your name shows on the soccer program. you played 17 games had zero goals and three assists. Which really wont make a difference for N. Ireland, but hey have a nice time while you're here.

why doesn't everyone grow up....I know Mike sweeney form awhile ago when he played here....he is a good player when i played with him so i can just imagine that he has only got better. People who are being rude to him need to understand that you can be a great player and not have goals or assists.....I know guys that control the whole tempo of a game everygame and yet don't dcore or assist that much....That is soccer....and don't worry Mike....they are just made because they can't play soccer in a higher league.....too much time on there hands if they have to research a player and all of his stats to see if they are better than them or not.....I hope you play against his team and run circles around him
the problem is with people who kept saying some great saviour for N.Ireland was coming along to lift the team on his shoulders. Problem is, one player will not make your team a lot better. He'll help for sure, but they shouldn't be going around being all full of themselves now. With the number of players on this size of a field, your team needs to have heart and hustle to win. That's it.
And don't feel bad for Mike. Mike should be happy people are so interested him. I'm sure he is, too. Hell, think of the attention he'll get now.
Of course, Northern Ireland did the stupid thing and started heaping praise on him and letting everyone know how amazing he is. Everyone should just remember that Norway killed N.I. 10-0 last year. It was 6-0 by halftime and they decided not to try for the rest of the game but still scored 4 more. One player might miake that score 8-0 but that's pushing it. N.I. just doesn't have enough skill to compete with the defending champs

I think I will just add a little something here, I think the last point is actually great point, NI has not done well in the past so it is hard for people to imagine that they will be a force this year. However, we do want this to resemble the world cup, not a premiere mens league with four good teams. If every year the top teams are the same teams will start dropping out and people will stop watching because it will become predictable. The real world cup has favorites and they change from year to year because of new players, young squads and developing teams, I think if we keep that in mind this tournament will be extremely successful and worth watching all the time. I also hope that friends will start playing for other teams, and lean more toward their heritage that way, during regular season play you get to play with your bud, but for the WCP you play against, just like the real thing. If more teams can be competitive more teams will want to join because there will be a realistic shot at the title. One of the best part of last years tournament was that Germany and El Salvador were eliminated early. I did not want to see them go because they are strong teams but it made it seem realistic that power houses can be beaten, and underdogs can pull through (Greece and Laos). I think before we start going crazy and labelling teams as shitty we should wait until tournament time and then make our judgements afterwards because I for one would like to see a new team in the quarter finals. That is just my two cents.
I don't understand why everyone is telling everyone else to shut up and wait for the tournament.. the whole point of this blog is to TALK about the tournament BEFORE it starts to build up some excitement.. if you want people to shut up you can always choose to not read what they are saying, no matter how immature and pointless it might be.. As for NOI, it's a new year with many new young players, they may come out and play well or they could very well have too much of a mix of young and inexperienced players with a few experienced players with a bit of an ego but that is what I love about the tourney.. you never know what to expect but we all still enjoy predicting it anyways

2. Kevin Hollness will not be able to fit in his jersey and they will have to sew 2 jerseys together to make it fit.
3. Greece will evolve into not just hacking the other team, in an effort to become even more aggressive they will start hacking each other.
4. A civil war will be declared in Laos and all the Laotians??? on the team will have to return to their country leaving . . . actually only one member of their team would leave so they still would have a team.
5. Nigeria will score one goal in the entire tournament but unfortunately it will be an own goal.
6. Ukraine will become known as Urine for their piss colored jerseys they have, boy did they look ugly last year.
7. Kevin Murphy will finally come out of the closet.
8. Northern Ireland will win it all baby!!!

I don't want to be negative or anything but in regards to England, who is Kurt Samways? Is he Frodo's buddy? And I don't think Tristan Manz is a top 5 player. He's good but c'mon, every team has a player as good as he is. I think the same probably goes for Wernikowski as well. Good defender but nothing better than a lot of the other teams. The rest of your picks are pretty good though. As for England, my opinion why they won't win it is they don't seem to have a core of players who have played together. They just have a bunch of skilled players. One of the reasons ROI has been so good is most of those players have played together for years and know each other.

No doubt Campbell is better than him, Yorkton's keeper is better than him, Annibal and Otitoju are as good as him and I'm sure there is one other who I can't think of who is at least as good as him. A one-armed midget with a wooden leg could keep a clean sheet playing for ACFC. Manz is solid don't get me wrong but he's nothing special.

Manz is not in Campbell and Krause's (Yorkton Goalie I assume) class. Put him with the rest of the goalies. You still haven't answered my question about if Manz is so good why was he on the bench last year? His own team didn't think he was good enough and played the other keeper. I don't want to trash Manz because he's good but c'mon, don't build him up to much. It's not like he's from Norhtern Ireland or anything :)

Norway won last year, who was their best player? Payette was good of course but who controlled the midfield? Related to this fact is he was probably the best player on the ACFC U18 team (with the possible exception of Roman). Norway deserve at least two guys in the rankings you would think. Just because Husdal is a jerk to play against doesn't mean he's a bad player.

I have had enough of premier player. To say husdal controlled the midfield is ridiculous. Midfielders are expected to defend as well as ATTACK.

I was watching the Laos Vs Portugal game tonight and I have to say that Portugal was looking pretty good. They are a little disorganized but if they can tighten up the gaps during their transition and shifting they have a good chance of getting close to top 5. Laos, does look like they have some talent. However, you can see that Pancho has tried to change some of their style of play and I do not think it is working for them. Laos, should be a fast team, especially during transition, but now that Pancho is there you can see he is trying to slow the game down way too much. Their first option they chose everytime they gained possession in the back was to pass the ball backwards except once, and that happen to be a quick long ball from Tony to some little guy up front, who had a great chance because they caught Portugal ball watching. My advise, to both team is that Portugal needs to tighten up in the middle of the field, and Laos you need to go back to what worked for you last year, speed of play/quick counter attacks.
Who's got the best midfield for this year? I think Norway. They can pull from Josh Patterson, Stefan Husdal, Adam Rolfe and Adam Coons. All four can score from way out and they can dish to Adam Payette all game too if they need to. Only other team that can compete is England

You heard it hear first, Ukraine will have the best midfield if you take into account all the players and not just the starting 4. But the starting 4 look pretty good with Roman, Ferridge, Shuba and whoever else they throw out there. All solid defensively too.

I think some of the Laos players should learn to accept a little constructive criticism.. Even though I may not agree with that other guy's theory on how they should play, any time anyone says something even the least bit critical all you get is "fuck you Laos haters.. we will show you all"

To Angry Laos person, I am not saying that Laos is bad, they will probably finish very well. As for the score I could really care less because it was a friendly match I was just watching your movement and style. plus the goalie you had in net handled it well. All I wanted you to take from my comment was move the ball quicker and forward rather then backwards all the time when you gain possession in your defensive 3rd. Anyway, Laos will do well. Good Luck

Laos is definitely the cockiest team. They think that because they got lucky last year they're an actual contender this year. No chance. That team has way too many players that choke in big games
I think it is wrong to say Laos got lucky last year, they beat some good teams and only lost 1 - 0 to ROI (yes I know that ROI had a red card and were 1 man down for much of the 2nd half but they weren't dominating Laos when the had 9 men either). Laos are a good team that needed a little luck to get through but still deserved to be there. Every team needed luck. ROI was a great team but they didn't play a good team all tournament until Laos. They were lucky to have the easiest pool by far and their first playoff game was against Portugal! I don't think Laos will get as far this year but they are one of the top 8 teams and can beat any team in the tourney.

Laos is still good. They aren't really cocky...when have they talked smack? Everyone is bashing them for no good reason. The Laos player up there wasn't angry at all, he just said it wasn't representative at all of the team that will show up at the tourney, and everyone gets all worked and starts saying Laos got lucky last year, they're cocky and they choke. Well...that's a little unnecessary if you ask me. They play hard and will still be one of the top teams in the tourney.
And to the last anon, where do you get your info that Ferridge isn't coming and that Roman is for sure out? I'd like to know. I've talked to them both and as far as I know they're both going to be ready to play.

Just to update your previous comments on Mr. Manz being the only keeper to play at the "National" Level. Krause also played at that level and I think he to is better than Manz, although Manz is a good keeper his qualities aren't as good as other keepers.
As for Ukraine, I'm sure they will do fine without those 2 players, They have a termendously strong Defence. Just because England has all the who's who in Regina Soccer playing don't mean squat. Look at the real England squad who shit themselves along with Real Madrid who can't play together worth Perogies. Ukraine will be the dark ones, comin up to give teams the SHOCKA.

Wow, those exhibition games sound thrilling. Besides England, those teams could round out the 16th to 20th place finishers for this year's tourny. Somebody post the next night all those teams play so I can make sure to avoid the soccer centre at all costs

Ughhh, us Norway guys hate woman! They are disgusting and we don't like them at all. They smell funny and talk with wierd voices! Men are much better.
