I definately think its not a good idea to have the opening ceremonies the day before the first games! The fans who go to the opening ceremonies will want to see the winners from the mens, womans and youth play.

I hope Canada doesnt fluke there way into play offs like last year!

I agree...having the opening ceremonies on the opening day of the tournement is a pretty good idea...gives the fans a chance to see some pretty solid games and to see how big of a deal this tourament has become in the multicultural sense at the ceremonies.

They'd love to have it on opening day, but the problem is that the facility has been booked by a baseball camp that afternoon. I don't know who dropped the ball on that one...

Why are they still having opening ceremonies? Are we still pretending this tournament has anything to do with heritage. The teams that win every year are the teams with the least heritage. Not even the real world cup has opening ceremonies. Let just get on with the soccer.

the opening ceremonies aren't necessarily for the teams its to bring out all the differnet cultures. so what if laos has half imported players, look how many fans they get out to their games? same with nigeria and all the other teams. the heritage isn't just about soccer in this tournament if you haven't noticed over the past 6 years.

I have to agree with Anonymous 12:26. Yeah it's great that there is a little bit of a heritage component in the rosters, but I think the greatest multicultural part of this is the fans. I would challenge you to find any other soccer tournament in Saskatchewan that brings out that many fans that are that passionate about their team. I've played in a lot of tournaments in my day and I've never seen a person dressed up in my teams colours and put on face paint to cheer for the worst team in the tournament (IE: See the people coming to in kilts cheering for Scotland last year, or the Chilean fans cheering...not the worst teams, but certainly bring out some decent fans considering they haven't had upper echelon teams lately).

Just tossing this out there but I would like to know what the average cost per player is to play in the tournament? I have heard rumours that some teams pay as little as $75 each and other pay up to $250..is this true and if so do you know which teams are the cheapest and most expensive to play on? Lastly, whats this i hear about player tranfer fees???

Scotland was $100/player this year and last. All depends on practice times.
