The pools were drawn last night, and I'm pretty sure the biggest surprise for everyone was the pool with with El Salvador, Germany, Laos, England and Greece. Yeah, it's a pool of death. El Salvador and Germany seem like early favorites to make it out of this pool, but don't forget about Laos' revamped squad. England and Greece could also upset these teams if they are taken too lightly. Teams took Canada too lightly last year, and they made it to the final. Not to say that they didn't earn it, because they played very well, but too many times teams are brushed aside because they lack "star individuals." Greece and England could play the role of spoilers this year by beating the the better teams. So yeah, tough to say who will get out of this pool. Prediction: El Salvador, Germany, England, Laos, Greece. El Salvador is all-around just too good to get beaten this early and I can't see any other team that will be able to compete with Germany's firepower. England will be tough to beat but will ultimately be unable to make it out of this group. Laos is still learning to play with each other and Greece will come out on the wrong end of some close games.

Laos will for sure make it out with Evan Campbell in net. They basically replaced their entire starting line-up, too
okay dan they have a good but way too overconfident goalie. they don't have anyone who can finish and there's only so much a good midfield can do if no one can put the ball away.

germany beat greece tonight 2-0 in a friendly... both teams were missing players and greece added a couple players from laos to help out
lets elaborate on the germany greece friendly.. the two goals were scored late when everyone was tired ...greece had 5 players out of 20 and only 2 of them were starters... obviously the game meant shit but still if that is the german team,, they will be in trouble for the real games.. they are a solid team but they arent impressive

Hey, on this blog and on team Canada's forum there is an overuse of cultural sterotypes i.e. racist comments. For all of you trying to be funny, think about your comments. How are your shoes fitting?
The group being picked on are the Greeks and I am not Greek, but I'd be pissed if I was and was categorized as bunch of cooks.

The comments towards the greeks and being cooks was not meant to be insulting. I love to dine on greek cuisine. No one in the right mind would ever turn down a fresh greek salad.

Definitely group of death is group d. I like Greece to come through but only if they drop some of their older guys on the team. I saw a practice game last night between Laos and Greece, and let me tell you that taller guy with curly hair looked very weak and slow. I remember back in the day he was some player but I think its time for him to play in a rec league and let his younger greek brothers take over the reigns
Don't overlook Laos. This team is SOOO much better than last years. They have a lot of young talent - see goalie and midfielders - and depite their being selected to the group of death they should advance. El salvador is good but not good enough...Germany beat them and it was a fairly entertaining. This group has a lot of talent and young players so look for fast pace. That means greece has no chance.

greece are just a bunch of punks, they have no style,no skill,no speed. how did they get this far? canada,or norway is going to beat them convincingly. they arent good at all. that tall guy harbis gets all the goals but he is clumsy, the wingers lack speed, and there defence is known to break down. why do they even have a striker?
then why is harbis playing for the 5th best university team in the counrty!
All am going to say is that it wasn't easy, but we played our games with a lot of heart and discipline. We have a great coach that knows the game and that everybody respect. We also have some great players in the team. About my defense falling apart, mmmmmmmm dont think so. I believe we have the strongest defense in this tournament and we have a lot of talent in the scoring goals area. Good luck to all teams in the next round, we (Greece) will play again with passion and heart and see what happens.
